    Just installed the $150 one off Amazon. Install was about 30-40 minutes but I also did the rear camera anytime mod too.

    I also went with the 12volt solutions unit. Very easy install and worked to about $260 Canadian. Uses the factory remote which eliminates another fob in the pocket.

    He's correct. None have the ability to keep truck running when you open the door (if you have push-to-start)
    This is a Toyota safety feature that major brands like viper and compustar can't even work around.

    Once our trucks are running, they will drive without the key inside (for at least the 1/2 mile i tested mine with)
    This means that if your remote start your truck and someone manages to get it, they can drive away. No key needed.
    So, to combat this, the truck turns off when the door is opened. This means you need the key to crank it back up and drive away. Thus preventing vehicle theft.

    Just a quirk we deal with.

    My dads 18 Honda HrV has a factory autostart and it shuts off when you open the door too.

    Might go farther. That was the other end of the shopping center my shop is in and I wasn't willing to leave the parking lot. If it made it that far, I bet it will drive until you turn it off.

    So I had a random thought. What if I left the window rolled down and climbed through? Would the truck still turn off or not until a door opened later? Any risk of damaging the autostart module by trying?

    Most have a timer that shuts motor off. Mine is set for 15 minutes.

    Most of these remote starters only work with Tacoma's with the Push button ignition. Anyone have a recommendation for a old fashioned key ignition?

    More than likely you will need to go with one that would install “old school”. (Cut and splice) wires or at least a few wires. Your options are limitless. You could get an alarm with remote start and install electric door looks. Check with a reputable local car stereo place.
