Looking at getting a remote start sometime and I'm curious to see experiences people have had. My old truck had one by Orbit which also had a cool flashing blue light which most people thought was part of the alarm system (which I didn't mind), but it came with a new key fob. I'm interested in models that use the existing key fob and the dealership said the factory one would be about $6-800 installed so aftermarket it is. I'm aware of the N2 one and am also curious to hear experiences with it. I like the idea of smartphone connectivity, but have no desire to pay a monthly bill just for that so that's not important to me.

The “monthly bill” is $39.95/yr or $99.95/3yrs.
    The latter amounts to $0.09/day.
Only you can decide if it’s worth it to you.

In the winter, totally worth it. Although I guess it would depend on the key fob range. The one on my old truck was insane, but I get the feeling that the Taco key fob isn't as far.

How can you press the clutch In to start without being in the truck?

I believe N2 makes a remote start for the MT. You may need to push the clutch start cancel button (I can't remember if that's what it is called).

It's just a Low key flex that he has a manual.

Lol, I figured. But not many people know they do make that remote start option.

I got one from Viper a few years ago. I think it was about $400 installed and works perfectly.

I don't think I've heard of them before. Did you have it professionally done or did you do it yourself?

This is the one I got https://www.viper.com/car/remotestart/product/4105v/viper-entry-level-1-way-remote-start-system. I don't know the first thing about electronics/wiring, so I had the shop do it. Local place out here near Denver http://www.pdaroadgear.com/. It took them a bit to install it and they know what they're doing, so there's no way I could've done it myself.

I have an Auto but the iData Start was a perfect fit for me. Has the cool blue light also. You can use the factory FOB if you want for the remote start (I'm and SR5 so I do NOT have push-button-start, just a key). You can also get the kit level that includes (2) new fobs. I did that because they have amazing range but that's just me.

If you want any more info I can look for my post but it was <$400

The DS4+ viper is the best. Can use the key fob. Or you can add a pager alarm that can reach up to a mile. Or do it from your phone.

I have a Viper system I'm pretty sure. My truck had power locks but not remote lock/unlock. So now, I have remote lock/unlock and remote start. i don't remember the model but could look it up if you want me to. It came with 2 fobs. I haven't had any problems with it. It's been great. I don't remember the exact cost but I think it was $2XX-something out the door at a shop here in the Denver suburbs. I want to say like $240 maybe? I think they cost more for the newer vehicles with chip keys.

I think I'd like to use the factory remote if possible

If you have any specific questions on the idataStart solution feel free to PM me. I did the install myself and on my auto I think I spliced 3-wires. I used a harness to PNP the rest. You can use the factory fob and save some money. I just don't have MT so I can only help so much.
