Remote start?

Once I press the lock button 3 or 4 times on the key fob the truck will flash the park lights a few times an then start but when I get up to it an open the door with the sensing handle an the key fob in my pocket the truck will then shut off so my question is does everyone’s shut off an do that an if not how do I keep it from doing that

Unless you install aftermarket starter

 

yes it shuts off when open a door.
Seems it’s a Toyota Lexus thing not sure anyone has found a way around it.

 

Welcome, this comes up weekly if not more often during the cold months, I’ve never heard of a fix.

 

Normal operation. Stupid design.

 

i have an A/M does the same thing. Has something to do with the connection under the steering wheel cover. Its a safety thing so no one steals your truck. Also the truck will remain locked so no one can just get in it.

This. Even Ford solved forever ago on all push-to-start cars. I still appreciate a warm truck in the morning, but doubling my starter usage not so much.

 

Does this work on all Tacomas or just newer ones? I’m too lazy to dig out my key fob and try it.

 

Yeah I was quite disappointed when I found this out, even called the dealership asking if I should bring it in to be looked at. I use it when needed, which tends to be sparingly as if its that cold outside (below -10C) then I'm usually wrapped up anyway.

 

It won’t cause any appreciable added wear and tear to the starter, definitely not something to be worried about.
