Yup, I've experienced the same thing a couple times. Like you, I started a thread here on the subject (though I can't seem to find it now). Started the truck via app to warm up for a couple minutes, got in, wouldnt start. Threw a "battery charging system" code. Got out, locked the truck, got back in, nothing. Tried via the app again, stated right up. Turned it off via touching the door handle, got back in and the pushbutton worked....weird.

The concensous seemed to be that it was a unique sequence of events the truck was going through that was causing a glitch, confusing the computer into going into a "security mode." I feel like for me, engaging the steering wheel lock was a contributing factor but can't say for certain. I will say that since I've stopped purposefully engaging the steering wheel lock, it hasn't happened. So there's that.

I gave up on the app due to it being extremely slow so I have been using my key fob.
The one thing I did stop doing was using my spare key fob to start the truck, but I doubt that was it.
Its been fine since I did the key fob reset, but the battery did totally die a few weeks ago after 2 days of not driving it.
Booked an appointment to have it looked at but cancelled it, I doubt the dealer will be able to figure it out since it rarely happens.

I’m having the same issues with the same symptoms. Today it was 22 degrees, I was downtown Detroit with my dog. Not a good feeling. It eventually started up but my fingers were almost numb from going in and out of the truck waiting for some miracle to happen. I think I will at least find out if I can make an official complaint or something. If it’s not in writing it didn’t happen.

    Hi, new here

Found this other thread and posted there also https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/truck-wont-start-after-remote-start-is-used.752491/

The exact same thing was happening to me as described.

Just got back from the dealer. I asked about all the theories. The tech said they've seen it before, he said it seems to just be a weak signal from the fob to truck. I asked about door jam switch, he said it isn't what sends the signal for truck to shut off. He said the problem is part of the system that senses your hand in the handle. He basically said the signal is strong enough to unlock but sometimes weak and slow to send signal for truck to shut off. He did a hard reset of the system, then the fob wouldn't work at all. He then reset the fob. As of now it has worked 4 times in a row. 2 off those times I grabbed the door handle and pulled fast, truck still shut off like it is suppose to.

If it stops working properly again, I'll post

    Cheers!

I’ve been having a similar issue with mine, smells like my old C10 when it happens. Dropped it off at the dealer yesterday morning and they just called to say they couldn’t duplicate the problem. Here’s a link to my thread that had a few other people with similar problems. mine is a 2022.

Add me to the list on this.... Just happened to me and my 2020 OR trying to leave for work this morning, its about 0C currently. Remote started it and let it run for about 5 minutes or so after it sat on my driveway overnight. I used the handle to open the door, it unlocked but the engine kept running. Tried to put it in gear and everything immediately shut off, however I didn't see any error codes. I then pressed the Ignition button, nothing would happen. I repeatedly got out of the vehicle, locked it with the fob, the door handle touch pad, and the key, but it still would not start. I then locked it with the fob and let it sit for a few minutes while I furiously googled wtf was going on. After waiting a few minutes, I then did the 3x press remote start and it started. I unlocked it with the fob and it shut off as expected. Once I got in, and pressed the Ignition button, it started right up like there was no issue.

Just my opinion, but it feels to me like the door handle sensor is the issue here. I am thinking I can likely avoid the possibility of this issue happening by using the fob to unlock the truck when it has been remote started, until a dealership can conclusively identify what is going on. The dealership is 3h away from me, so it'll be a while before I can have them look at it.

I swear, I've never had keyless entry and pushbutton start on a vehicle where it hasn't caused problems. Even Toyota apparently.
