Is it possible for me to have a remote start installed on my Tacoma although it came without the Push Start? All I am seeing are the kits that insist that the kits are available, however, the vehicle MUST have a push start already installed.

    Any information would be appreciated.

I posted a thread that included a small write up and YouTube video a couple days ago, I would send a link but don't know how. Maybe someone else can help with the link?

Awesome brother. I appreciate it. I will definitely check into it. I am thinking that I will actually have the Geek Squad at Best Buy actually do it, though, I am o.k. at some electrical stuff, but I am not o.k. enough to think that I want to risk messing anything up on a vehicle that does not even have 200 miles on it yet. I REALLY appreciate the information though. It helped me a lot. Take care and stay safe.

I checked with my local Best Buy and would have went with them but all of their systems required an additional remote control or to install the add on that uses your smart phone. The basic setup was $328 installed without the smart phone option. I was going to use them but they had a three week wait also.

Stay away from the Geek squad!!! too much money for a hack job. Look for a independent shop with a good rep.

This. While certainly there are some good installers at Best Buy, there are also a lot of crappy installers. No way to know what you're gonna get if you don't have prior experience with a specific individual.

If you're not comfortable doing it yourself find a well reviewed (yelp, google, etc) independent shop to do the work.

Shadowray, JJ, and GPB....wow! THANK YOU. I was literally JUST looking on the website!!! OK, well I will check around then. So, let me ask yall this, I know that you mentioned that it should be something that those attempting to do it should be comfortable with electric stuff. I see that some of yall either had someone else do it, or at least checked into it. So, if you checked into it, and then did not go with them and decided to do it yourself, how difficult was it?

I also have another question. I want to change the headlights from the boring factory halogen, to LED lights. I have already changed out the cab lighting and the license plate light over to LED, but would it be something that I could do? I talked to the parts department at the dealership that I bought the truck from and they mentioned that they could do it, but I mentioned that I would not pay them to do it, and he said of course... well it comes with instructions. To me that makes it sound as if it would be easy(ish). Thoughts on this question as well?

Have you looked at the sticky threads at the top of the 3rd gen forum? Particularly this one:

I decided to do it myself for a couple reasons. I was sure I could do it myself and do the job better because it is my vehicle and I took my time hiding the wires and making a clean install. Second was cost.

The install is fairly straight forward but I have been installing stereos and amps etc for about 25 years. Not in a stereo shop but just my own and friends vehicles. If you take your time and follow the wire diagram it can be done.

Do you know what they're selling for the LEDs at the dealership?

I do not know. I only know the price that he quoted me which was 150, but I do not even remember if he even mentioned a brand name

Check out that thread also. Take the panels off and look at the wiring to get an idea of what you're working with. Heck, take pictures and label everything which is what I ended up doing. And by all means ASK QUESTIONS! Another brain to pick is a huge help also. I probably spent a week of prepping and chatting with @gpb for ideas and suggestions before I finally installed mine yesterday. Smart key requires a few less wires but the concept looks the same based on the wiring diagram. https://fortin.ca/download/58241/evo-one_ig_reg_bi_toy-tacoma_2016_hkey_a_58241.pdf

If your just putting LED bulbs in its simple do that your self. You can install the remote start to. Ask questions here there are a lot of people that are willing to share info and help you out. Look over the info and decide if its something you can do.
