I was just looking at the Viper Smart Start system and lots of people have issues with it working it seems... I found a similar compustar version that people seem much happier with. I still can't decide if it is worth shelling out the extra money for the smart start yet though...

I have now had two different Compustar Remote staters in my last two vehicles and both were excellent. They are a bit more expensive but I havent had a single problem with either one and the range of each has been excellent.

I stand corrected. I thought that was the module and not the complete system. I just went with the 2-way Viper with the 5000' range. I'm not shelling out another $70 per year on top of the cost of the module just for the convenience of cellular service.

High today was -2 F. Before leaving for home from work the 5706 FOB wouldn't start the Taco through the building. Broke out the Android and Smart Start and in less than a minute started and then verified that it was running. Worth every penny to me.

I would have gotten the 5000 system however they are sold out every so did the Smart Start add on to the LC3. Might want to check availability especially this time of year.

I don't have a good brand recommendation but I will say don't bother with Ziebart, they lied to me about the range (said 3000 feet and even the manual says up to 1000) it works half the time (push buttons and does nothing) and Ziebart wants no part of a resolution of a useless piece of shit that doesn't do what it's supposed to. Excellent customer service so worth looking elsewhere.

the warden has a compustar 9000 2way remote start on her 2012 taco. she gets pretty good distance thru buildings but it does cut down the range. signal meter on the lcd display helps to determine viability of getting a remote start.

after a year, the clock on the lcd remote never has the correct time on it, but we dont really care since we never look at the remote, just go by the beep feedback anyway.

i do know the cell phone option on the compustar is $29 a year for the baseline service.

wanting to get one on the 2014 4runner LE, but they havent come out with a compatability list yet for them for the cell phone remote start.
