Yes, and the other thing which is the easiest and cheapest, is to get a hose clamp and put it on the right side where the tailgate is mounted in. That way, they cannot get the tailgate out unless they do the hoseclamp. Now, anything can be undone, but at least, it is a deterrent, and that, along with a tailgate lock and some kind of cover for the bed, whether it is a tonneau cover or shell, should pretty much do it. Also, regarding the hose clamp, for me, I also wanted to make it less conspicuous, so I painted my hose clamp black first, before I installed it. That way it isn't even noticeable and looks like it came that way. Also, someone else suggested this after I had already done mine, was that when putting on the hose clamp, actually "turn" the hose clamp so the part where you put the screw driver in to tighten it up, is actually done FROM THE BOTTOM and under the vehicle. That way, they cannot even SEE the screw to unscrew the hose clamp, and will likely move on to something easier. I actually did a video on this too! Here is the link:

I used the oem kit about a year ago from sparks parts.
The only issue I had was the instructions and all the YouTube videos on how to do it show following and tying it to another cable along the passenger side. If you have an SR or SR5 that cable is not there because you don't have the power outlet in the bed that the TRD models have. It still however works fine you just have to find your own places to secure it to the inside of the frame and out to under the tailgate.

I wondered about the cable placement in lesser equipped trucks as I was installing my OEM lock. Plus very soon I will be removing that AC power cable assembly and replacing with another cable. I will then have to reattach the tailgate cable.

Another lock I would recommend to anyone is a camper top door lock; just like the tailgate I did not initially purchase either and I subsequently have had them installed. Both are very handy and worth the money to me in lack of worry; "Did I lock it or not?"

Another for OEM. I got it for $115 with free shipping from a local Toyota dealer that ended up closing their parts store for some reason. Install was easy and ran it through the passenger side for the double lock bc I like to click buttons.

I just installed the revolver X4s and can secure stuff in the bed now if I need to.

All the OEM kits I'm finding are 2019 and newer. Will this work in my 2018?

I believe that it does. When you order be sure you get the correct part for your size truck. There is a longer version for double cab long beds.

Realized I never said thanks for responding. I appreciate it!

Appreciate the info about truck size. It's so confusing that the shorter bed is called a long bed and the double cab 6ft bed is called super long. I ordered it from Maryland that someone posted. Waiting for it to arrive so I can install it.

I just removed the handle assembly to use it as a template to bolt it up and then free formed the rest until I was happy that the solenoid didn't over throw one way or the other.
