Could not find this in the owners nor service manual nor on the forum so here we go.
The remotes for the keyless entry stopped working suddenly.
I went through the described process of opening/closing doors and inserting/removing the key but to no result.
Around the same time the remotes stopped working, the sound when you leave the car without removing the key from the ignition actually started working for a short while.
    It never worked before.

Could it be that those 2 issues are related? Where to look for?

Does your key-in beeper beep even when no key is inserted? The keyless entry will not work if the truck detects a key in the ignition.

Thanks dm93. No the key-in beeper actually never worked. Just one day it started working out of the blue. Just once or twice and since then it again malfunctioned.

Mine also doesn’t ding 90% of the time.
The ignition spring gets worn. I can get it to ding by applying forward pressure on the key. Like you are starting the truck.

Anyways, See if your truck will ding in the ACC position. If it does, open the door and press the lock button on the door. It should lock and then immediately Unlock. This keeps you from locking the keys in the truck. If it unlocks, it’s likely NOT the key sensor.

Toyota calls it the Unlock Warning Switch, I'll pull you a wiring diagram for it tonight.

Yeah. I’m not sure if I have a diagram for just that?

My door locks as long as it is NOT dinging. Even if the key is in the ignition.
(Even though it isn’t supposed too)
So, I think the dinger is directly related to the door look system some how.

I’d have to look and see what all the unlock switch is tied too?

The unlock warning switch (key in switch) is connected to the body ECU, the key in beeper I believe is in the Combination Meter (instrument cluster).
The body ECU will not allow wireless door lock control if the unlock warning switch is on.
The easiest way to see if that is what is keeping the remotes from working is hitting the door lock button on the door with the key out and the door open (make sure the door ajar light is on on the dash), if the doors lock and immediately unlock you have a problem with the unlock warning switch or related wiring, if they lock and stay locked but your remotes still wont work with the doors closed then something else is going on.

Yeah. I was doing it backwards.
Key in the ignition. Try to lock doors. I guess if I learned anything, it’s that you can lock the keys in the truck if your warning switch is worn out.

I guess I “crunked” on the switch so much, I’ve worn the return spring out.

I forgot to ask the year of your truck, the diagram below is 05-06 but I looked at several years and they appear to be the same as far as I can tell.

Thanks TNshooter. It does not ding by applying pressure on the key nor in acc position. But it does unlock when i lock it with the key in the ignition switch.

Thanks DM93. They lock and stay locked with the key out, they lock and unlock with the key in.
I will just contact the guy who made me a spare remote when I bought it to see if he can fix it. I will send him the diagram to see if it is any help.

Sometimes it is as simple as reprogramming your fob/key.
