That would work great. But I wouldn’t use a latch to secure them. I would use a wing nut like the mob town bumpers.

I might get the mega spindle kit to weld on before painting, then take my time with the rest of the project. But they look like what cbi uses (bearings and tight tollerance), so hopefully I can find what relentless uses as their pics look like a more removable setup.

I don’t really see why you couldn’t do this with our swing out. It’s just one big ass 1” bolt. I wouldn’t call taking it off hard. I wouldn’t wanna have to do it everyday. But it’s way easier than mounting a RTT. So I would think you’d have no issues stoarong it in the garage until you’re prepping for a trip.

Mobtown jowybyo, you don't seem to make the swingout bumper for 1st Gens; 2005-up only?

That is correct. Sorry I didn’t realize we were discussing 1st gen bumpers. I guess I should have looked at which section we were in. Carry on gents.

Do you sell DIY parts? Would you put on the site the option to just buy the hinge mechanism you talk of? I've found some other places to buy what other brands seem to use, but they all use bearings which looks like a real pain to deal with.

I made my own swing out pivots with a 1.25" grade 8 bolt, and some oil impregnated bronze bushings.

Pretty easy to take on and off.

FWIW, I broke a spindle and bearing setup before switching.

Current setup is cheaper, simpler, easier to remove, and more robust.

Love your system, reminds me of 4x4Labs bumpers. Overbuilt, which actually means sufficiently built in my book. Nice work.
Edit: actually 4x4Labs does use bearings but your latches remind me of theirs lol

Looks to be about $1200, in which case I'd get Relentless's native system. At both price points I'm looking at DIY, put my mig to use. If $400 I'd be tempted to save myself fabbing, and using the hitch would for sure address my goal.

I hit up Relentless to see if I could simply have the dual swing out tabs welded onto the bumper (their setup is sleek)- then I will diy over time.

Pretty much anything can be removed and put back on. Is it worth the time and hassle, we’ll thsts up to the person. Keep in mind 1st gen are limited in options compare to the other gens unless you want a fab shop to do a custom one to your exact specs. A lot of fab company are moving away from the 1st gen.

If you’re worried about looking like a mall crawler then why not just mount it in the bed? However I think you should do whatever you want to your truck and not worry about what a stranger thinks. Most of the things we have on our truck or any hobby are wants, not needs. You are on TW after all :)

It's more praticality, just like I don't drive around with my gear 24/7. I don't mind looking EAF, hell that would make me fit in more in LA, but no need to block my rear view, lug around, get it the way when I move stuff that requires my tail gate to be down etc. Like those guys that have a neat pulley system in their garage to lift their RTT off and not DD with it on.

Check this guy out- major props to the build and self depricating jokes towards what this hobbey is starting to look like.
    https://youtu.be/Qike5D_Msjk

Basically, why lug it around when not in use? For DD I will still use the spare below- I get large tire guys don't have this option. As far as rocking steal bumpers- justified simply by DD in LA traffic where you are more likely to get hit by a texter at slow speed than a rural person hitting a deer lol.

    Got this back from Relentless
Welp that kind of sucks, but oh well.

In prep I need to get 440 ran into the garage, pretty sure my Hobart at 115 will not be able to handle the gauges involved here.

    This kit looks pretty good
    http://emsoffroad.com/tire-carrier-kit/

Then emulate this guy's build somewhat.

I ended up with a used Wilco hitchgate cheap, ended up not liking how far it stuck out so I hacked the hitch mount apart and tied it into the factory hitch to make a bumper out of it. Easy enough to take apart single handed.
