I'm a newbie here. I need to know how to remove the instrument cluster in my '05 prerunner. I have difficulty seeing the intruments in the day time. I'm thinking that replacing the light bulbs with something other than the red lights that it now has with LED's, but I don't know how to remove the cluster. Has anyone done this before? How do I get the thing out? Any help will be appreciated.---thanx.

    - Remove plastic panel between seat and door
    - remove foot rest
    - remove panel to the left of foot rest
    - unbolt 2 10 mm bolts from knee panel
    - if auto tranny, remove tray to the right of steering colum
    - if manual, remove cover around e-brake
    - remove knee panel
    - remove 2 plastic screws located up top of cluster dash
    - remove cluster dash/unplug all switches
    - remove all 4 bolts to cluster and unplug

In order to change out the LEDs you must unsolder the LEDs from the board and resolder the new LEDs on

    Any questions post back up

EDIT: here's a quick link for reference

damn im sorry to here that.

you can find a replacement cluster off of ebay or a junk yard...the dealership charges like $500-600 for a replacement one.
thanks  the white background isnt really noticeable the blue is
imo the orange (stock) is the most noticeable during the day but at night white kills it with it being really bright.
if youve solder b4 you can probably handle this and the leds i always order from oznium.com

    they are the plcc-2 leds

Thnx for the info. If I buy a cluster from ebay do I need to be concerned about the mileage and/or no. of cylinders. Is this all controlled from the ECU?

the mileage is saved both on the dash and on the ecu...and ya the 4 cylinder automatics have the gear selection from:
    P
    R
    N
    D
    3
    2
    L

V6 autos have a 5 speed so they are:

    P
    R
    N
    D
    4
    3
    2
    L
