They are "Port installed options." Six bolts, 8mm x 16mm long on each side, pop off the rubber plugs that line up under the rocker and install.

Watch Craigslist. I pulled mine off at a week old and priced it at $250 for a quick sale as I put on rock sliders (I use them when I am 0ff Road, which saves my rocker panels).

    Welcome to TW!

Just take them off, my dude? You can always re-install them if you miss them lololol.

Good choice! One of the main things that drew me to my truck was the lack of side steps. I had some on my previous truck and they were pretty impractical. I believe my trim was supposed to come with it so I assume the previous owners (or lessee) removed them. Either way, I wasn't complaining. These trucks look much better without them, in my opinion!

and they're off...it looks so much better.

I have some of that "Fluid Film" on the way...so I figure I'll just spray up in the bolt holes with some of that...and maybe try to find some plastic inserts that fit too for good measure.
I mainly got it to hit those TRD leaf blocks and probably any points where anything connects/bolts to anything on the frame as well.

Also a good thought. I use Woolwax which is basically a slightly thicker version of Fluid Film.

I guess the only thing I miss my side steps for is having something to bang my feet off on before getting in, but simply getting in sideways and banging your feet together over the edge solves that problem.

Honestly, not going to lie - I 100% thought about this and greatly considered it before removing them.

I'm thinking of just sawing the steps off. Who ever invented them should have to hit their leg on something over and over again the rest of their life

IS that what comes from the factory? I looked at the bottom of mine, and it looked like the WORST orange peel I had ever seen, followed by a layer of plastic. I tried o justify in my head that it was the bottom of the rocker panels, and since it's already "rugged" paint, I won't notice in the future.

Yep, that's exactly what is already there, from the factory.

I believe these were the steps that my truck was supposed to have. You can remove them entirely and it looks much better without them. The bar they're attached to isn't going to function as a rock slider so there's really no point in keeping it on.

Glad to see I'm not the only one. Other than that I haven't missed them. For cleaning the roof, I can always step on the door sills. After all, I'm washing the truck anyway so I can get that part too, if I need to.

I kept my steps for my parents and grandparents since they have trouble getting into the truck. I also mount stuff on the roof sometimes so it helps to have steps. It’s also useful when detailing the roof.

Truck looks better without the steps, less bulky. I’d say lose it if you don’t need it.

I probably will just remove them rather than cut them. I don't mind the bars. It might protect against car doors

I ditched mine on my 22 OR and sold them on FB marketplace. I didn't really use them and truck looks much better w/o them.

I say no side steps, as the step in height is actually pretty low in the Taco. I'm not a fan of steps in general. The only ones I really think look good, and they aren't even steps at all, are the rock rails on the ZR2.

IMO, if you don't use them they get in the way when getting in. only useful thing about them is when you wash the truck and do the roof. having said that i don't off road.

That was the one thing I told my sales guy "don't even try to skip those into the allocation" ! If you need side steps it time for more burpees.
