    I'll just leave the spare.

I'd rather not pull the secondary air filter. I rather like not having a direct dust injection intake.

Yet you bought one that you traded in for some reason? Now you complain that the performance isn't up to the pre-runner you owned?

Secondary air filter is to trap emissions and does not help trap dust.

But it won't help performance either so leave it in for that reason.

Good plan to leave the spare, it is there for an awesome reason.

Keep the windows rolled up and lean forward when you drive.. it will add at least 3hp. Listening to lil wayne will increase wind drag as well

I always heard vehicles were faster without the driver.

The first question I can't understand therefore cannot answer. I bought one that I traded in? What does that mean.

To the second question, I'm not complaining - I'm making an observation and trying to rectify the very real fact that the 4wd trucks are not as quick as the 2wd. Not sure why you're getting your panties in a bunch.

I wanted 4wd, regardless of it being slower. I still do want it to be quicker. Not sure how or why that's hard for you to understand.

I am in the near future hopefully. I understand of course that a 4wd truck isn't a race car, but I'd still like more power. I think the supercharger would be the perfect fix. Wonder how much it is with installation?

Last I saw, bulldog hadn't tested the tuner for a straight 4.0L, only supercharged Tacos. I haven't kept up with it though.

Lol I usually give it a good slurp of gas off every green light, so I don't even notice any sluggishness.

You are the one that bought a 2wd only days ago when I presume you thought that a truck didn't need to be 4wd, only to change your mind and trade it in for a 4wd after some sudden change in view, and stance that only 4wd for you.

I don't understand any of that. You mistake me poking fun and humored by your illogical, as a panties in a bunch.

Removing the spare is a hilariously stupid solution.

    this is going well.

op, congrats on your 4wd purchase. in terms of weight vs speed, a common rule of thumb is 100lbs per 1/10sec. of quarter mile time. spare doesn't even weigh that.

im curious as to how 4wd would really effect perceived acceleration. I would guess maybe 250lbs additional, which in the grand scheme of things isn't much. maybe your new motor is still breaking in, adjusting to your habits, etc.

there is a bit more friction from the c/v axles spinning, but not much. you can raise the truck and turn a front wheel very easily on mine.

give it some time, it will work itself out.

and your question on what to know about 4wd from a completely new standpoint:

using it on dry pavement is harsh on it if you turn.

using it in snow or loose gravel can get you in trouble at high speed. for the same reasons that it is not good to use on dry pavement, it will occasionally hurt you in high-speed turns on low-traction surfaces. it will take you far, but slower is always safer (regardless of drivetrain). there is a reason that racecars don't use 4wd.

it is good to "exercise" the system. try and engage/ disengage once a month. Toyota suggests using it 10miles per month, but that doesn't jive with the dry pavement rule for most of us.

keep an eye on the front axle boots. if you notice grease slung in your wheel well, one broke.

the transfer-case and front differential are new to you. aside from exercising the actuators when you can, they contain gear oil that should be changed occasionally. I change every 30k miles, but I never had a factory maintenance schedule to tell me when. your manual will specify oil grade and weight. do your rear diff at same time. and if you are a manual transmission, do that too.

that's about all I can think of for now. just remember that 4wd is not the perfect traction solution. it helps, but use caution just as you would with a 2wd on slick surfaces
