Hey everyone, I tried to find something about this in the forms but came up short - I’m also totally new to trucks so I might just not know the right words.

Recently got a 2020 SX, long story on why its new, but I’m starting a job doing habitat restoration/invasive management in backcountry areas and need good ground clearance.

On the front of the truck at the bottom theres a black plastic piece that hangs down sort of making a curtain, it seems to be totally cosmetic and likely to scrape on the rutted our roads I’ll be driving. Is it ok to just pop that off?

PS - is there a way to dim the interior lights (especially the gear selector) beyond the screen settings or turning the odo knob?

    Thanks folks!

I can't speak to dimming the interior lights, but I believe you're talking about the air dam as far as that front piece goes. You definitely can take that off, the off road model doesn't even come with it and most folks on here take it off for appearance reasons alone! I attached a link to the piece to make sure we are talking about the same part.

To dim the dash lights, twist the odometer reset button in the gauge cluster.

Thank you! That’s exactly what I’m talking about, glad to hear it comes off pretty easy :)

Your job sounds cool. Upload some pics of your truck in the “post your Tacoma with a scenic background” thread if you have time and are interested in sharing. That curtain (airdam) only reduces the approach angle by a few degrees, so you could leave it on and just see if it survives. I’ll post this picture just to show that you can drive up moderately groovy roads and just end up with scratches on the air dam. It flexes and bounces back when you scrape stuff.

i didn’t realize that, might be really good to use as sort of a warning system that way to be honest - thanks for the good advice!

I’m for sure hoping to get some good pictures up here soon and didn’t know that was a thread - I move to that job in 3 days, on the west coast of the Olympic Peninsula and after being a long time backpacker am starting to look into dispersed camping on forest service roads.

Hoping my SX can handle it, seems like every taco I’ve seen is a TRD Pro but then I think about what I’ve seen 35 year old rusty fords do too.

With all that and the new truck things are really starting to feel like they’re coming together!!
