Diff drops rotate the front diff. This gives a very small improvement to the cv angle, but it also cuts down on the oil that the pinion side of the diff gets. Diffs are expensive to replace. CV's are cheap to replace.

durf, have fun replacing your diff.

If you're lifted 3" in the front the CVs are already at an extreme angle, the diff drop isn't going to make it magically alright.

    DING DING DING!

DD kit's are fine for most of us, there are a TON of parts out there not strong enough to be on race trucks, cause that's not what they are built for. wrong item to use on a truck like that. stfu now :)

Most trucks are capable of a 20 mph speed off road. Race truck or not, Hitting a rock on that diff drop at a slow speed will cause this kinda damage. So....STFU ;)

I think the main word here is "ROCK." Rocks are very hard on stuff. My buddy hit a rock with his '88 Toy and broke the diff drop bracket. Different design, but same issue.

well before telling everyone to take them off, do me a favor, go find a rock, and hit it at 20mph, similar to what mike did... with no diff drop of course, I would really like to see the outcome. wouldn't you ;)

how bout you think for yourself and either take his advice or not...

we're not all sheep... we can look at the pictures and think for ourselves.

from the pictures i really dont see how the could really help the cv angle enough to make a difference... so far i only know of 1 website that sells drop kits and there must be dozens of places who sell lifts...

Thanks for a really great informative thread. I was always leery of diff drops. I guess all my concerns have been answered here. Thanks Mike for sharing your experience here.
