Yea I thought I used to like the air dam but once I removed it and loved my truck way more, I immediately threw it in the trash. No difference in mpg either..

Reviving this zombie thread because I managed to bang up the stock brush guards a bit when I was on a rocky trail last Friday, and the air dam not only didn’t come off, it seems to have weathered the damage the best. Has anyone actually torn theirs off on a trail? Mine deserves a rad TRD Off-Road badge or something for its service.

I might! If I get a real skid I’m thinking I’ll Dremel my dam to fit around it so I can still brag on Instagram about my fuel economy.

To be honest, when I did it, the change was very minuscule

I took mine off last evening. Took a 30 mile road trip this morning and drove in 5th gear cruise set at 60, up and down through the hollows and still got 25.8mpg. No difference in mpg with it off that I can tell.

Been thinking the same on my truck removing the air dam. Truth is i really don't notice it much unless looking for it. If it keeps some of the rocks off the paint going back and forth on my dirt road i'll leave it in place. I heard you should remove it anyways if going off roading.

It probably won’t protect the paint. Do it if you think it looks cooler. There’re few people here who actually would need to remove it before going “off road.” I don’t know if what I do constitutes off-roading, but my air dam has only a few scratches after going up trails that smashed up my OEM underbody guards by several inches in some places.
