I was wondering if anyone knows of a reflash program that removes the anti theft code from the computer so you do not need the chipped key. I seriously need to get rid of that thing. I'm ordering the Ovtune in a few weeks but I think that just does fuel mapping on the manual transmission.

Really, nobody has tried to remove anti theft code for chip key? Successfully or unsuccessfully. Already toasted 1 of the 2 keys it came with, need to figure something out.

Just not a common thing or you might be 1 of 10 people out there somewhere who considers this. Sounds like something that could take a tremendous amount of effort or just isnt possible as it's requires Toyotas software. How did you toast a key?

What are you trying to achieve? Most people just order a replacement key.

I suppose the question popping up is how are you killing the keys?

In other vehicles, it is usually the antenna on the car / bike side that gets buggy.

Went boating, got stuck on a sandbar, had keys in pocket, stayed wet for 3 days as I just put on dry clothes. Didn't realize my key was in pocket until I got back to boat landing. Luckily my spare was taped inside receiver hitch in a ziploc bag.

IMMO delete was an easy change on older Magneti-Marelli ECUs on some Ducatis. Just unchecking a box when flashing a ROM. Of course, IMMO on a bike is kind of senseless. I wouldn't want to delete it on a car.

I’d be interested in this also, I hate all this electronic gizmania which is the reason I bought a simple (I thought) SR and still wound up with chipped keys.

Not a lot of theft here. I'm more likely to have my truck ripped apart by bears trying to get food out of it than having it stolen

A ziplok (or similar / better) sounds like a much easier solution? My last couple phones were not IP rated. I would drop them in a ziplock and ride to and from work all year round with no worries. I used them underwater that way a few times also. The screen still worked through the bags.

Otherwise, the keys are fairly waterproof. Folks have said that they sent them through the wash a couple times with no issues.

Think it was the prolonged wet that did it. Having keys that have electricity in them is something new to me. I think I would have been fine if I remembered and took the key out of the wet pants to dry right after it happened.

Not into driving like 150 or 175 miles to a dealership, just don't have the time.

    I agree.

IMHO, I would work on the habit versus the programming change. That said, since your getting OVT, you might ask him if it is possible once you are set up.

I gotcha. Your easiest solution would be to get something like this: https://www.carid.com/master-lock/r...0ez0AKNbmV5jUq5_OVWgodgo6uk9izOyRVRoCU4Hw_wcB

Its just me, but I'd recommend against poking around the security features of a new truck still under warranty. Electronics are weird in the new Tacoma, different circuits overlap in weird ways, as people have discovered. You might get yourself unexpectedly stranded, playing around with immobilizer functions. Just saying
