Removing Door Edge Guards

    I don't know if it's a SE Toyota thing, but I've got clear guards under my door handles, on the door edges, and on the lower section of the bed of the truck behind the cab. The guards have blackened around the edges, and look awful. I'm OK with the bed guards, as that's a high wear area, but on the doors, I'm not sure if I want to try cleaning them, or just remove them entirely.

    Has anyone removed these things without damaging the paint? What did you use? Heat gun and Goo Gone?
