Not sure if this is the correct forum but it's an affect of running larger tire.
So I am getting ready to purchase some tires for my SCS wheels with 4.3" BS and will probably get 285/70/17's. My question is if I need to remove the mud flaps what can I expect in terms of damages to the side/rocker panels of my truck? Are these trucks riddled with paint chips and premature rust? How far up the sides does the damage go?

I removed mine the same day I brought the truck home and upgraded to 33s a week later. Two years now and I haven't seen any damage from rick chips. I drive on a lot of fire roads and gravel and am always picking up 1/2" rocks with my MTs. When I get back on the highway, I can usually hear them flying off inside my wheels wells and hitting the sheet metal underneath (inside the well)- no external paint damage though. Although, I do own a superwhite so I know it hides damage a lot easier than darker colors. I'll take a closer look when I get some better light, but if anything, I would say it's minimal to none., But that also depends on what terrain your driving through.

Don't have mine removed but I know that if you do plan on removing them, it is better to remove it sooner than later. That way, you don't have scuffs on your flares around the mounting location from the mud flaps rubbing on them or from debris trapped behind the mud flap.

Just bought my Tacoma, 2015 new. My first Tacoma so new to these forums too. 95% of my driving will be on-road so I'm thinking I can take them off and not worry too much. My Taco is black though so I might need to wash it more often :)

I'm not running tires that big but its going to happen without the mudflaps. There is no damage and the chips are minimal on my Tacoma.

My tires are the stock 265/70R16. Just bought new wheels last weekend, sticking with 16" for now. Looking at some 265/75R16 BFGoodrichAll-Terrain T/A KO2's for a more aggressive look. Can't go too big because the wife won't let me lift it...yet. Anyone know what the largest tires would be that won't rub?

Yeah I figured that would happen. I'll probably wash it all the time this summer then the "newness" will wear off and I'll never wash it again :)

Imo, rock chips will be minimal. Our trucks have a protective coating on the bottom of the doors that helps prevent chipping. Take a closer look at your door and you'll see something that looks like orange peel.

Those won't rub with your stock wheels. Can't say if they will with the wheels you bought.

Nice looking tires. How are they on the highway? My wheels are 16" with 12mm offset (out from the truck). The stock wheels are -30mm offset I think.

Haha mine just ripped off and I never looked back. If you get over sized tires put the truck in reverse off road and wait for results. It will not take long. No harm done 65 thousand miles later.

Quieter on pavement than the worn 265/70R16 T/A KOs they replaced. People have posted on here about some having more rubbing issues at this size on wheels with even slightly different offset and backspace. Wasn't interested in spending more on wheels, anyway.

Going to remove mine. But unfortunately its already scuffed up the OEM flare..... 117k miles with them on. Just installed new billy 5100's with ome 884 springs and I lost an inch of lift from the previous owners apparent 3 inch spacer lift. Pretty sure that's what my tire is rubbing on. Hopefully It will buff out. If not ill just use my paint match color pin to fix it a bit.
