The original generation of airbagz were a bit ... overpowered. In July 1997, they added the passenger airbag & depowered the driver one.

In NA Miatas, many remove the airbags & install afternarket steering wheels. It’s a VERY common mod.

Is this “a thing” on Gen 1 Tacomas?

I was thinking of doing it, but haven’t looked too deeply into it. I have 9 Grant wheels, so it’s not a big expense for me. I just need the adapter for the truck & can install 14-15” ones.

    Anyone done it?
If so, what is the 1995 Tacoma adapter part #?

The issue with the earliest aitbags is they are so powerful that that can cause as many injuries as they prevent:
    Broken fingers, wrists, & arms
Broken noses & various face injuries
    Burns
Plus, the force of inflation can, literally, rip parts of the housing out & turn then into projectiles.

So, less than 10 years after they were initially introduced (were one of several solutions to a “passive restrain system) & only a few years after they became required in al cars (other solutions were downright damgerous) they were depowered to a much safer, amd more effective level. Then, the number & shape expanded to all over vehicles.

I ask because, while other threads exist on it being done, I wondered of it was a very rare thing or a common one.
