    Hello Tacomaworld!

I just ordered JBA short headers from URDUSA. This is the first time in my life replacing headers on any of my vehicles, and was just curious as to how difficult of a task this is??

I have PB blaster that I will apply 2 days prior to install. If anyone has head this type of header, either JBA or DTL please let me know about install and if you noticed that the engine aesthetics were improved. Thanks!!!

Shop labor rates are usually around $100 per hour. So ya, by your own number that sounds about right

that is the problem with shorties...long tubes FTW!

shorties need them taken off, then cut and have the front cats welded onto the new headers then re-installed...one main reason why i went with the long tubes

"Bolting (minor welding required when installing headers on a 4.0 liter 1GR engine)" Didn't think I would need welding done. Is it worth it to get them done at a shop? I have the money to pay for welding if needed.

unless you are good at welding exhaust piping then i'd have a shop put it together...

search through the threads, i remember someone had a thread showing the shorty install and welding procedure..gives you an idea of what is required..

    yes and no..

it removes your front set of cats, your rear cats stay in and you would hook up an o2 sensor to get your computer to think your front cats are working properly and not trigger any engine codes

so depending on what your state has regarding emissions or inspections, you may or may not be able to go the long tube route

Why does it require welding? It doesn't fit in the cat the same stock does? Anything with the flanges??

Well that can easily be done. I have a mig welder and a friend who is a lot better than I am at welding. My last question, which is a make it or break it (Will return and pay re-stocking fee:mad:), This is also illegal isn't it? I didnt think it would be illegal, but I also didn't know the whole welding/cutting situation with these headers.

legally most states don't allow you to modify any vehicle if you read the statutes, but as far as emissions is concerned, you will be legal as you will have both cats in...

Argh, I have the equipment and resources to do this mod. But I am not sure I want to risk future resentment for inspection.

    aren't you already lifted?

    edit: saw your mods..

you're lifted, with an already modified exhaust & non-factory HID lights...you're already illegal according to most state statutes

Very True. The funny fact is, my dealership is the one who passes my inspection. I had my mechanic there put my lift in. I think I might just send these bad boys back or sell them to whoever would be interested. I would rather just buy long tubes at this point. Sorry for realizing this after my purchase
