Have done this. A second set of hands to hold the skid plate in place helps tremendously. Neither shot is direct, but it should give you a sense.

Plan on doing this myself very soon! But I have a 50 mile commute every day that I go 60+ mph...what's the bad part?

We’re talking truck people, air dam or not, your driving habits will never be spot on in the sense of how toyota tested it...I gave up my air damn and supposed 1mpg and didn’t notice any change in gas mileage. Not even the “added cabin noise” claimed by some when removing it. The only thing I noticed was stability during 70+ mph on a very gusty day/highway or the same but when between two semis...but that’s what makes life exciting! Live a little!

Removed mine and went from about 19.5 to 18.5 or 19mpg. Came with lift and bigger tires new but did change lift soon after so don't know what it got stock.

I lost 1mpg removing the lower spoiler, 1mpg on the 2.5/1.5" lift, 1mpg on the +1 tires. 1+1+1=3mpg. I don't have anywhere I really "have" to go but if you are getting to work and back it is something to thing about because that is 15 percent.

I don’t recall any clips holdong it, but it was two sided taped in some places. Remove the bolts, pull it off, replace bolts.

Take it off and don't look back! As long as you get all the bolts, it drops right off.

I have the 4 banger, and meticulously tracked my MPG for the first year. For the record, I'm approaching 70k miles already.

Added a cap, no change ... might have even improved a little bit. Took off the air dam when I put on my SSO hybrid bumper, did lose about 2-3mpg for several weeks until I put the plastic fins on each side of the radiator back in(inside of the engine bay). Things went back to normal. Then, out of curiosity I put the dam back on as well as I could, no change.

Added mobtown sliders, okay ... finally noticed change. On average, it is about 1.5MPG less with all of that.

Stock, and with the cap I could get 26-27mpg if I really tried (in the warmer mos). Now it is more like 24.5-25.5.

The air dam might do great in a lab setting, but real world I am not convinced it matters much. Then again, I do not live in a super windy area either. There are way too many variables to give a meaningful answer that will apply to everybody, so YMMV.

Thanks for the info I’m glad somebody is actually testing this irl because I still think it doesn’t improve gas mileage just by itself, ie: the other fins and aero gear on the truck also have to help deflect for improved mpgs

I didnt bother to read comments so apologies if someone said this. After air dam removal put the screws back into the holes. So you dont loose them and also on the driver side i believe it holds a plastic piece from rattling

I took mine off when I had the truck for a week. I average 20mpg on a tank with half city half highway. Looks much better without it.

Can Ya show me what you mean when you say "plastic fins on each side of the radiator?"
