You're not finessing anything. It's all in your head.

You have the ability to turn it, hold, stop. How do you replicate that in a push start?

I keep saying this lol...I wear a t-shirt and sweatpants to work since I'm crawling around with kids all day. Where do I put a key fob?

This is what started my hatred of push buttons...was helping out at a function and one of the girls went to leave...her mom had an escape with the push button. Car was dead...she's there trying to push a button...I was like wow at least if you had a key you could understand a little better what was wrong with the car because of the noises it would make

I don't think you can do all of that though... You got all the fancy crawl control and stuff

Yes...but I do that just fine right now lol. Idk why that part is suddenly a problem...I drive a car with a standard ignition...I don't lose my keys in the car while I'm driving it though because they're in my fancy archaic ignition XD

I read an article on Edmunds about a guy starting his Tacoma up miles away from his friend who mistakenly still had the key. Also, totally my mistake, I meant the battery in the fob

What if they're in the house or in something right by my car? Right now with a standard ignition I cannot arrive at work and wonder where my key is...I just remove it from the ignition

THANK YOU!! YES! I work like 4 different jobs, babysit for lots of families, take dance classes, teach dance classes, help with flute events, help with grandparents, trips up to advance for car parts in the middle of working in things, etc etc...right now I keep my purse and DL in the trunk because it's one of the last things I think about when I'm running out the door, but always want to have my license on me. This has saved me from getting to the grocery store without my wallet so many times. And nobody can see it in there.

Just a joke, using credit cards to buy the truck.

Put my downpayment on my card just to get the points :D

The same place you'd put your keys. (Do you have a house key? Put it with that.) Or attach it to your phone (via a phone case). You won't likely forget your phone, right?

If I had to wear clothes without pockets, I'd put the fob on a lanyard and wear it around my neck.

Haven’t read the thread yet, but seems like it would be super easy to replace the button with a key. Still have to press the brake to turn it though.

Seems like you leave everything in the trunk of your current car. Obviously you need a new plan if you are buying a truck. Leaving a purse in a truck will get your windows broken and your purse stolen. Figure out what works, the issue is not a push button or turn key.

What would be really amazing is finding a trim close to the one you need to convert. Then you'd need a Very cooperative wrecking yard operator willing to let one do the swaps for a reasonable fee. Some even have techs that do a lot of repair work and access to dealer level tech stream.
Our trucks are modular, meaning most things just plug and play, you just have to tell the ecm what it does or doesn't have. Most all manufacturers I'm familiar with work this way as it keeps the manufacturing costs reasonable. A lot of components in our trucks and from other TOYOTA model lines are interchangeable. Most wrecking yards have access to (interchangeable component) info, but the info is top secret lol!

At any rate, this would be quite a feat for most of us and not for the faint of heart to attempt

    Best of luck
    Cheers!

What a dumbass, start the car, leave the keys in the car... just like if they were a real physical key.

Can't stand to hear dumb people rant about a problem they created themselves because they're too forgetful or dumb.

This has probably been covered but unless your key is inside the car it’s not going to start.

I really don’t understand why you and other people have such a hard time with push button start. It’s exact same as a key without actually having to to turn it.

You have to have the key at least in your pocket to open the door. Not in the house. Your key has to be in the car to start it. Not in the house or even on the floor of your garage. If you really need to physically touch something to start it then get the fob out of your pocket and set it in a cup holder or something. If you get out and leave they key it won’t let you lock the door.

As for leaving it running. As I said in my last post. If you can’t remember to turn your car off. A) you shouldn’t be driving B) you’d do the same in a manual key car. Not to mention if you get out and it’s not turned off it’ll beep loud enough you can hear it outside.

Lastly the complaint about carrying a key fob. Do you not carry a key now? Do you have some sort of customized sweat pants that only have one pocket and that pocket is designed with exact specifications to your current key? Do you not have a house that requires a key to unlock?
