Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has removed their spare tire carrier? I just did a lift and some 33s, and the new tires don't fit into the carrier (currently storing it on the roof)

I want to get rid of the stock spare but the carrier will just hang and swing if its not on there. this is probably a stupid question but I was just curious to know what other people have done

Currently is the same boat as you. I'm still trying to see what i can cut to make room for a 33' donut spare. Have you removed it yet?

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
I got tired of that stupid pain in the ass clanging around down there so I climbed under with big 16/18" zip ties and strapped every inch of slack out of that thing. Has held up well for 6 months now.

Any progress towards fitting a full size spare under your truck yet?

I've been told you don't necessarily need a full-sized spare - that if you get to within an inch you'll be just fine. Just make sure you put the spare on the front of the truck.

You could fit a strong 32" under there just fine.

I store a 33" under mine with no issue. Tools needed was a big ass hammer. Plenty of threads on it. My issue is I run 35's on all corners.

I have a 33 inch spare under the bed. Had to cut away the small prongs that held the previous spare in place. When the rear axle flexes the differential rubs on the tire and it has removed a good bit of paint. Bought a prinsu so I can throw the tire up there

Other folks have fit 33's in the spare location by shifting the mount and/or persuading a few metal bits with a BFH. I believe Crom's build thread shows what he did to fit his 33's.

So today I hammered down these spare tire guide tabs with a dead blow hammer. Then I went ahead and did an exhaust chop. Chopped off the exhaust after the muffler and added a turn down aftermarket tip. Got plenty of room now. Will be putting my spare on tomorrow.

I'm always curious where this rationale comes from.

It works...might not be best for diffs but would rather get home with a broken diff than die in the desert
