I did a quick search but yeilded nothing. How do I remove the speaker covers so I can paint them black?

I think you gotta pull the door cover then you can release them. I could be totally wrong though, its been over 6 months since i worked on the panels.

They don't come off... They are part of the door. you need to mask them out & paint them.

you cant drill out the grills and just glue them back in?

No !!The speaker grills are molded into the panel,they dont come off, Take off the door panel and tape them off and paint them.
