    Guys,

Has anyone permanently removed their sway bar on their 2016+ Tacoma? How is normal everyday driving? Any issues after the removal?

The reason I ask is I have a 2017 DCSB OR and would like to have better flex for offroad trips. My previous vehicle was a Jeep where I removed the sway bar and never put it back on. On the roads it was definitely different but nothing to cause concern. I can't imagine the Tacoma would be any worse to leave the sway bars off permanently.

    Thoughts?

You're going to get a bunch saying never to do it then a bunch saying do it.

I haven't done it yet but considering it. Not permanently but any time I go wheeling take it off before going so drive to the trail without it.
Remember it is technically a safety feature and in an accident if found it could have you charged or at least not covered. Insurance is not happy to pay out so they will look for anything that point to. So something to consider.

From what I've seen on here many say with factory suspension it's pretty scary/different but with aftermarket suspension that you might have a bit stiffer it's not too bad.

I've removed mine with no complaints, but my suspension isn't stock, so I can't speak exactly to your situation. I'll never put mine back on though, it's not a car, I'm not hanging it out on corners anyway.

Edit: Also as a note nobody drives my truck that doesn't understand that it doesn't handle like a stock vehicle should. For safety reasons rarely does anybody other than myself drive it, just something to consider

Very important! Had a new girlfriend almost roll my crappy Bronco II on the freeway by overcorrecting it several times back and forth across the lane, I reached over and grabbed the wheel and stabilized it. I realized my mistake in letting her drive it without having experience with any high profile vehicles. Shes lucky she wasnt driving it alone. Learned an important lesson that day.

I removed mine when I installed Long Travel kit. It takes some getting used to, going around corners will result in some serious sway, but nothing that can't be adjusted to. No more sports car turns. More like a Trophy truck type turns. Sway away............

Very simple. Remove it, and go for a test drive. If you like it, leave it off. If you don't like it, put it back on. It's as simple as that. Everyone's opinions are different, so this is the only sure fire way to get an answer.

There are two negative drawbacks with the sway bar is off. 1st is high speed, over 65, evasive lane changes on the freeway. Be prepared for excessive body roll going into the counter steer. Beter yet avoid the situation, scan, slow down ect..

The 2nd is when vehicle stability control kicks in making a turn and the truck goes through a dip. Right turn, the vehicle is rolled to the outside/driver and the rear right looses a bit of traction and this vsc applies the brakes. When the brakes are applied the vehicle rolls more to the outside because there is no sway bar.

The benefits far outway these side effects. Every time I hit an entrance, driveway the truck is stayble and does not rock back and forth. I’m on dirt job sites daily. The sway bar no longer beats me up all day long. Im not stock, have fox 2.5s.

Hope it helps. It probably takes 20 to pull it off. You can always put it back on.

Thanks for the info guys. I will probably move forward with this as it sounds like there are no show stoppers. Also I don't drive my truck like a race car and have had experience driving 4x4 without sway bars.

Stock suspension, don't. Too much body roll and the stock coils aren't heavy duty enough to compensate for it.

Upgraded suspension (heavier coils), remove it. The stiffer coils prevent the sway/roll.

I removed mine yesterday, I am on a 1" lift spacer/block. So far a bit more body roll but not bad. I do daily highway commute going to see how it feels

I loved mine offroad with it off, and hated it on road. Cloverleaf onramps would always set off the traction control and that made short merge lanes dangerous. Now I pull it when I go rock crawling and leave it for everything else.

Compromise. Just take off one side.

Ok ok, I agree with all the comments in this thread. I do drive into corners so my preference is on. But I’m just as fucked as everyone else.

That's a bad idea. The free end on the 3rd Gens will hit the CV.

The end links on the 3rd Gens is in line with spindle. Not the best pic, but it give you an idea:

Just for the record, I'm in the delete camp (SBD), but I have a nice stiff Sport.

Good advice, just get both sides and yank the SB. It takes no time to do. Had mine off, then on, then off, then on, and finally off for good.
