Junkman’s pretty good. Can get a little tedious after 4-5 videos, but his knowledge is great.

My exact plans for the wife’s new ride. Just waiting on the Gyeon ceramic kit to arrive.

Came to say the exact same thing. I just did a full scratch repair and color correction on my wife's BMW using the Griots G9 DA. For the the scratch repair I used fast correcting cream on a Boss 5" microfiber pad. For lighter swirls I used correcting cream on an orange Boss pad. I then went over everything with the perfecting cream on a yellow Boss pad; followed by an application of their liquid poly wax. The whole process took a full days work but the finish is like ice. It looks better than when it came off the factory floor.

I bought one yrs ago that I still have yet to use- I think it was on sale and I was on a all tools needed phase.

did you do any of the harbor freight da mods? I’ll have to look it up again but there were a few things people were doing to make it better- I think opening it up and packing it full of grease (I believe there was mention of lack of grease) and I think swapping the the pad backer with a 5” (or was it 4) instead of the 6er. I thought there was 1 more thing.

Im in the same boat. Bought one years ago, did the grease mod, 5” backing plate. Definitely quieted the machine down. Started on hood of car and just didn’t feel comfortable. I need to watch some more online tutorials

I think I repacked with grease but it got lost in the cabinet after that. Need to get a backing plate and pads.

Yes it is. It works great. I swapped the Meguiars ceramic wax for the Chemical Brothers ceramic wax recently. What a difference. The Meguiars spray SUCKS compared to Chemical Brothers

I like chemical guys too; get most of my stuff there, or another detailing site. FWIW I just put down some Gyeon ceramic on my wife's new ride. Wash, clay, wash, iron removal, paint prep, first coat, wait, second coat, sleep, breakfast, sealant coat. Blacker-n-black. She drove it in the rain today and everything but the rear was still pretty darn clean.

Really good products do make a difference.

Wouldn’t you want to de iron before you clay? I personally like to do a presoak/wash then de iron (gets the majority prior to using the clay). That way less crap in the clay and let it finish off the de contamination.

Could be. This was the first time I’ve ever de-ironed. Vehicle was only about 5 weeks old. Probably transported to the dealer under cover. So I wasn’t expecting a whole lot of debris. I noticed two things:

    1) clay didn’t pick up much at all. Only used 1/2 a bar and it was still pretty clean.

    2) de-iron was a bitch to wipe off. I did some quick math after the hood and figured I’d need about another 30 MF towels to do the whole thing. Took me about 5 rounds of paper towels on the windshield overspray before I used my good window towels. Had me wondering if I was doing something wrong. I did the horizontal surfaces and called it done.

That new you definitely didn’t have a ton of trash/fallout in it. That explains the clay still being clean. But You know it (clay) did it’s job when you swipe your fingers across the paint and it’s buttery smooth! I’m not sure what iron product you used but doesn’t sound right. The last time I de iron was on the old truck and it was ironx- you spray it on and watch it work (pretty sure just hose off after) and done. It works to break down any metal/particles (turns it red or purple, think similar to the wheel cleaners that turn purple after you spray it on and then just hose it off)

Well crap.... [runs to garage to read instructions again]. Nope, says to wipe off with quality mf towel. I’m trying out the Gyeon line at the moment. The other products were great. Just not sure about the iron part. It was pretty overcast that day....

Well you wouldn’t want it to dry so overcast is good. I’d get some of this stuff… smells like shit but great product!

Are you talking about the Gyeon product? You’re right about the stank, it was fairly impressive for a cleaning supply. I did all the non-wash work in the garage, so it worked out pretty well.

I don’t think I rubbed it in. To me rubbing in is rubbing all the contaminates on your paint. But even if you rubbed it in with a damp sponge all you do it hose off. Nothing like the work you had to do
