How do you remove the fuel lines at the tank? THey have little red clips of which i have never seen before. Do i need a special tool that slides up into the line like Ford or are these ment to come off in some other way?

If the ford ones are like the chevy one on my old astro, yes they take they special plastic tool that slides in.. there are other backwoods way of doing it with 2 small screwdrivers but I always bugger the clips up when I try that.

NAPA sells a mutlipack of sizes that I bought and use

i am just hoping i can get the bolts to turn. I expect to have to replace the rear strap. The front bolt is the one i am worried about most.

I am not sure how it is attached quite yet but i assume (hope) it is a bolt that goes all the way through and i can just snap it off and replace it if it wont come free. It is soaking now. Its going to be a hell of a day.

I replaced my gas tank about a year ago I can’t remember needing any special tools to unhook any fuel lines. THe biggest thing is just remember exactly what hooks up to what because it can get a little confusing under there. Most were just twist apart and pull. My straps were extremely rusted. I hit them with some pb blaster and let them sit for a day and they came loose much easier than I expected.

anyone got a extra fuel tank cross member or know where to pick them up? I suspect anything in any scrap yards around here are going to be completely rotted.

Actually depending where you are, there are a number at the pull a part junkyards. I was in Indiana, Last time I went the one I saw was relatively clean, however was totaled for a number of reasons. Maybe you'll get lucky.

Your post didn't say why you were pulling the tank. If you are replacing it, check to see if the one you buy will come with the housing for that little vacuum shutoff valve cover shown in the pic. I bought a tank from Rock Auto and it did not come with that piece. I never could locate a source for one. Mine was rusted to pieces, so I ended up making a new one.

You can buy the valve inside, just not the metal cover. My trucks are both 95s so maybe you can still get one for your truck IF there are any difference in the part between our model years. It looks identical though, so....
