Removing white 4x4 lettering from mudflaps

I've got an 09 and the white 4x4 letters on the rear mudflaps are starting to look rough. Has anyone had any success using paint thinner to safely and easily remove the paint without damaging the plastic? I'm not too inclined to pay $85 for new mudflaps at this point. Thanks in advance.

Stencils and white spray paint! How else are you going to rub it in to everyone's faces that you bought the 4X4?

 

A friend of mine just suggested to try rubbing alcohol. I tried some 91% and it came off fairly easy. Had to wet sand with alcohol and 1000 & 2000 grit sandpaper to get the final parts off. I'm sure acetone would work as well, and it would probably work faster.

 

Magnum 44 black marker. More efficient and less work.

 

I touched up mine, it was easy. Little tape and a couple coats of white spray paint I had laying around. However I used a 120 sand paper to take off the white and rough it up for the new paint.

Plasti dip works awesome, you can not tell where the black flaps end and plasti dip starts.

I just removed the mud flaps.

 

12 beers, a dremel tool and a "Give 'Em Hell" attitude.

 

I don't want the paint damage from chip sealing. I trimmed mine and like how it looks, but the "4x4" has got to go. Also, cops around here use a loose interpretation of the mudflap law to pull people over when they otherwise don't have a reason.

 

Just sand it off

 

Came right off w/ some 100 grit sand paper and some orange peel solvent

 

Always thought the white '4X4' on the mud flaps made it look like a Tonka truck...I trimmed mine down.

 

I need to do this.

 

7 more years of driving or paint em white again.

 

I painted mine recently and used 91% isopropyl alcohol on an old t-shirt to remove the old paint. Roughed up the letters using 320 grit sandpaper and painted them using Rustoleum white satin spray paint. They look brand new!
