A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
Asking those that have done this, if this would make it easier (not worried about taking extra time -got plenty of that) to remove the whole thing to get the end caps removed and replaced. I have read much here about breaking clips etc. and a difficult reach and more issues. .
Would not dropping the whole thing (bumper) make this task simpler?
And NO I do not want to replace it at this time all I want to do is change out the chrome end caps to something else black or BLUE painted. It is not that I hate chrome , it is that there is no other Chrome back there and they look like a Toyota "afterthought"
And BTW I have replacement endcaps bought already!

OK maybe a rephrase of the original question is in order.
How hard is it to take off the rear bumper assembly? Is it a two person job?
I know a lot of people have taken them off for replacement.

I took the bumper all off and realigned my bed to the cab and then bumper to the bed. No extra hands were needed. Hardest part was getting the license place lights to come out. Need small hands or long screwdriver to help push on clips. I do not have back up sensors so that helped.

Just take your time popping the clips out and you should be good. There are a few good videos online showing how to remove the rear bumper. I watched those and they helped a lot.
