Lessons I have learned since joining Tacoma World:

NEVER browse the group buy section if you aren't trying to spend money.

I look at everyones Tacomas here and my pockets get lighter.

General question here to all that know NV. Is Elko County so off the beaten path that folks don't settle there. As I search for somewhere to retire in about 5 years I notice that land out that way is incredibly reasonable. Even areas not far off of I-80. Two acre lots for $1500. Seems too good to be true. Am I missing something?

I’m just getting back into going regularly so I’m trying not to over do it. If I stay too long I’ll do too much and won’t be able to move for a few days haha.

It’s a boom bust town with all the mines from what I’ve experienced. I spent a good chunk of time there for work and enjoyed it. Pretty mountains all around and a somewhat small town feel. I’ve only past through a few times over the last couple years though. @nvwiggins and @nevadabugle will have some better insight.

Nah second week. That gym is super close and convenient for me but way worse than the North Valleys one so I go up there when I can.

There are some lots you can find for super cheap. Many of them come up on the county auction but there can be issues with them like access because the surrounding areas have the right of way and if you can’t work an easement out with those landowners then you basically have a property that you can’t legally access. Housing prices in general here are lower than the Reno area but they have been steadily increasing.

I don’t mind living here one bit it’s big enough to have most everything you need and if it’s not available the big Brown truck can bring it pretty quickly. A quick drive through the area on I-80 leaves much to be desired but once you get out and explore there are some pretty amazing areas around. That being said you should stay away it’s a horrible place.

I love Elko. Lived there for 6 years, moved out pursuing other career opportunities. Like said above, it is very boom or bust. Gold mining is really the only thing that makes that town go. There are places around there for sale that are complete dumps but there are some places around there are absolutely beautiful. Summers are good, rarely above 100, winters can be pretty brutal. Coldest I had when we lived there was -32*. The places that are that cheap are probably very rural. Even being so close to 80, they would probably have to be a 100% off grid type living, not a bad deal as long as you know what you're getting in to. Or they might be on completely un-level ground pretty unsuitable for building. In comparison, my favorite piece of property in the Spring Creek area that I wanted to buy and build on was just over an acre and it went for something crazy like $47k. If you have any coordinates on the specific property you're looking at you can pm them to me and I'll let you know more about that specific area.

I rescued a new FurBuddy last Friday.
    Hes a 61lb 8 month Shepard mix.
Sunday I took Buddy on his 1st trip in my truck to PetCo (40 miles each way) to get a crate & some other supplies.
He did great. Petco was a little hectic, but he behaved pretty good.
He discovered on the way home that the center console/armrest makes a great pillow.

We lost our two dogs not too long ago. They were both rescues (one was a stray that made it up to Citrus Heights from Vegas over a 3 year period of time), and the other was from Placer SPCA (Roseville). Wanted another pooch, but #wifey wanted a cat.

    #catlife
