So... I'm thinking of making a day trip out to Pershing county... somewhere next Saturday. I'm not really sure, I've got a few different ideas but they could end up boring, crappy, or fun.

Star peak from the front -- could be too much snow to get up very far, very scenic if you can get up far enough

Star canyon, probably not too much snow, some though I'd guess, still a fun drive and pretty, can always drive to unionville and other canyons as well as make a detour to old rochester

wrights canyon, probably too much snow and scrape the fuck out of every tree - not that I care but... a couple other canyons to check out if all else fails

Kitten Springs and Bolivia, mostly a dirt road, could be a little snow to make for a little fun but still kind of a cool drive anyway, always fencemaker too if it's too quick/boring

Explore different canyons in the Seven Troughs range, shouldn't be too much snow but maybe enough to make it interesting, lots and lots of trails but nothing too rough

I had my eye on a couple canyons out in Jersey valley, it's a decent drive to get out there but a lot of dirt! Don't really know what the canyons hold, might be a better trip for better weather

I guess really I'm thinking kitten springs, seven troughs, or star canyon but... ?

Hey guys. Sorry to jack the thread. But i just found out today my company is opening a new location up in south lake tahoe and i cant really find a bs thead or locals thread for that area. So figured you all might know the area around there. Im looking to move but want to live on the nevada side( coming from az i like the gun laws allot more than cali) plus i have some things that are not exactly legal in cali. Just trying to figure out some towns that are within a reasonable commute to south lake. Any info will be useful! Thanks in advance fellas.

Nothing wrong with this thread. That's where JBerry's at btw!

Stateline has your basics but for anything else, you'll end up going to Carson or Minden/G-ville -- or CA side.

I'm sure Jason has some better info though.

Does anyone know anyone that wants to trade a Glock 23 or 22 in any condition or Gen (+ some money depending on what you got, btw I actually prefer Gen 1) for a Taurus Tracker .357?

Oh yeah, all the times I provided were to the boarder. If your job ends up in deep South Lake, tack on at least another 15-20 minutes. Highway 50 through town sucks a fat one.

Not sure what your budget or family status is, but when it comes to actually Tahoe, the general rule of thumb I have is the farther north you go, and the closer to the lake you get, the more expensive it gets. As Max already pointed out, Kingsbury will be your best bet to actually live really close to South Lake Tahoe, but still be in the RIGHT state. Kingsbury/Stateline litterally starts at CA/NV stateline and moves slightly North and then East up over the 207 grade (Kingsbury). Apartment opportunities are the most plentiful in Kingsbury/Stateline than pretty much anywhere else of the NV side of South Lake Tahoe.

Traveling slightly farther North is where I live, Zephyr Cove. Zephyr Cove is a town encompasses by several small communities put together. The first being Round Hill (which is where I live). Mostly homes. The majority of the houses are full time residents but probably 20-30% are seasonal/rentals. There are I think two apartment complexes at the foot of Round Hill. Next up is the actual Zephyr Cove community. I don't know of any apartments here, but it is where all the big tittied drunk women come in the summer time because of the marina. Further north is Skyland Park. All homes, all very expensive as they are almost all on the lake. And north of that is Lakeridge, Lincoln Park, and Cave Rock. Again I think those are all homes too, not sure if there's any apartments. Zephyr Cove is 5-15 minutes from South Lake depending on which community and what time of year. And if you move a little farther north, there's Glenbrook. Glenbrook is where one would live if you wiped your ass with money in the morning instead of toilet paper.

Off the lake, there's a lot more inexpensive alternatives. If you go over Kingsbury Grade and drop into Minden/Gardnerville there's quite a few apartments, studios, and oddly, lots of houses on large lots that have separate mother-in-law retreat houses that always come up for rent. The drive over Kingsbury suuuuuuuuuuuucks though. It's 1 lane each way and a hell of a grade. You start at lake level at 6300 feet, hit Dagggett summit at 7300 feet, and then drop at an average grade of I think 9% (some parts are 12%) and then drop into the Carson Valley at ~4700 feet. This is my first winter here and I've already seen some "special" people driving up over that summit that would make that commute suck. Can take you as little as 30 minutes or as much as an hour depending on who's in front of you.

Alternatively you can also go all the way up 50 and live in Carson City. It's the largest city around unless you go to Reno. The nice thing about the drive to Carson is it's 2 lanes each way all the way and the grade isn't as gnarly. I personally don't like Carson (as a place to live) but it's good for shopping and what not and there's a lot of apartments. Count on minimum 30 minutes, but could be as much as an hour if you end up in North Carson.

As an absolute FINAL resort....there are WAY more inexpensive apartment opportunities available in South Lake than anywhere else around the lake, hell probably even more than Minden/G-ville. If you do end up wanting to move up and have to end up in CA, as long as none of your bang bang toys are short barreled, full auto, or suppressed, I can go through all the legal loopholes with you to make them California compliant. Rifles are not registered, but "assault" rifles have some really fucked up rules. Again, there are ways around the laws and be compliant. I still have some of my CA compliant shit I can give you should you need it. Since you're moving into the state, any of the pistols you own will be allowed in, you just have to fill out some gay paperwork with all the serial numbers and give the state money for having the "privilege" of bringing your firearms into the state (think of it as any pistol you have now being registered in your name). Mags are legally limited to 10 round capacity, but again, should you end up the shitty state, I can tell you how to legally own (and legally use) hi-cap mags in CA. And if you do have any really cool belt fed toys, you can leave them in my gun safe here

If you move to NV, you'll automatically get a raise. No state income tax in NV. If you move to CA, you'll get a pay cut. I was paying almost 10% state income tax.

That helps allot. I will defiantly not end up in ca. I WILL live on nv. I dont care if the drive is longer. As for the family issue its just me the soon to be wife and 2 dogs. But we will for sure be looking for a house. Im willing to pay extra for a place to live as long as its comfortable and not cramped. Haha. But as for this move it might be as soon as 2-3 weeks before im there looking for a place. The store is slatted to open in early feb some where in a shopping center in down town. I dont exactly know where yet. Thanks again for the help.

Dude this is Tahoe.
It's easier to fine cabins up here than it is to find regular homes and certainly no track homes!

Yeah i figured that one haha. Part of the reason i want to move. That plus the casinos, bars, and good food. I dont have allot of that where i currently reside.
