I can see him getting around $50k. But not very likely near the almost $60k he's listed at.

Hello all. I'm planning on transferring into the Reno area in a month or so and was wondering if y'all might have any local advice for me. Are there any areas of town to specifically avoid? I've been looking at apartments in the NW and SW of Reno, but besides the info I've gotten from my Google searches I know nothing about the area. From what I've read, traffic shouldn't really be an issue, and I'll be working at the VA hospital which is in a pretty central location. Most of the apartment complexes have very polarized reviews. One will say "5-star, best place to live ever", the next one "you're better of moving into hell."

Skip Neil Rd and Oddie Rd west side and you should be good (no offense if someone calls that home). There isn't a ghetto here so really anywhere is pretty cool. Get a temp appt and then get a lay of the land here and move. Good luck. Oh yeah, dont move here, it sucks.

    Thanks guys.
I like that map. Surprised I haven't seen it yet, I've been researching for a month. I've been looking in the "hella apartments" area, which makes sense.
Yeah, I was planning on finding a month to month first. It may suck, but I bet it sucks less than my current situation. I'm looking forward to getting out there.

we're up in the northern sparks (not quite spanish springs area), way up Vista Road. There's a new complex opening up our way (Lumina at Pioneer Meadows) but being up here can make getting downtown interesting in the morning when we have the occasional snow. Other than being so far from the highway, no real complaints. Most everything we need is near the Wal-Mart and Costco. If single and wanting nightlife, my neck of the woods wouldn't be best as its a $30-40 uber ride one way to downtown.

Married/kids or just you? Still Navy or getting out? I'm recruiting out here right now but leave this summer (still unsure where yet).

I have not looked in that area yet, but was going to based off of the map, lol.
Its just me, but I'm not much on nightlife. I'd be more interested in access to hiking/biking trails than nightclubs. I got out in '05, AT2, P3's out of Jax. I've been an RN with the VA for going on 4 years, and just accepted an NP position out there, as long as the transfer doesn't get jacked up. Tentative start first week in March.
Where are you from originally/how did you like Reno?

I'm not familiar, but if it's worth being a landmark I'm sure I'll get acquainted soon.

Down south or west side would be best then for access to trail for hiking. Originally from Sacramento so being here is kind of nice without having to live in CA. Our Chief was an AWV out of P3’s Jax for awhile before he converted to full time recruiting. I’m an AM and did most of my time on 60s with a few years on the Tacamo jets.

Oh and bully’s is a sports bar ;)

Oh yeah, that is nice. I was stationed a couple hours from home too.

Thanks. That's actually where I've been doing most of my looking. I have visions of riding my bike to the trails on Peavine from my place.

    So, need some opinions.

I have the Relentless Stingray bumper, winch, sliders and aluminum skids and dual batteries... are the 650lb springs enough or should I order the 700lb springs?
