That new one on Rock and Glendale is legit, grill and Cinnabon.

Also @la0d0g did you happen to hit the Lowe’s at Legends this morning? Saw a truck that looked similar to yours when I went to Discount Tire.

Too many to list, and I've probably forgotten a bunch.
I'm sending that to all my buddies.

Crossing fingers no snags pop up - T-minus 14 days to close escrow, leave California, and take up residence in America (fuck yeah!).

When you get here, do everyone a favor and don't drive like you're from/in the bay area

Born and raised in CA, and that's one thing I never 'learned' - how to drive like a hipster douchebag-asstard in a Tesla/Audi/BMW/Mercedes.

Turn signals are easy to use, and so are mirrors. Giving someone a break and letting them pull in to traffic is simple, and you don't lose anything by showing a little common courtesy. The freeways and streets aren't an invitation to race - just a way to get somewhere.

I realize there are assholes everywhere, and Reno is no exception. But having spent a lot of time in Reno well outside the tourist areas, the wife and I found people were WAY more polite and friendly. The food is amazingly good, and there's plenty of refined culture to expose my kids to (musically and artistically). Plus, there's TONS of open space and trails to go wander for a day, look at critters and (once settled in) go hunt and fish.

Lots of CA folks have a prejudice that Reno is a land of rednecks, casinos and whores with tumbleweeds in between, and nothing else. Those are the people I'm leaving behind as quickly as I can. I realize stuff I 'find' will be old news to most of you, but that's just part of the adjustment process. Sad to be leaving my parents behind, but looking forward to the new job, making new friends, and having a new adventure with the wife (almost 20 years!) And our toddler will never remember that she was once a Californian (to her benefit!) And her big sister (yes, poor planning!) is jazzed about her new school, snow, offroading, and exploring.

Honestly, I dunno what to do first upon establishing legal residence. Legally buy guns in a parking lot, buy an ATV or dirt bike, set up my workshop and reloading bench, start harassing folks about deer hunting, or just sit in the silence and stare at mountains and hills and snow and critters.

And for the record, I'm not bringing "California values" and "California expectations" with me.
Well, my wife and I will be 2 more votes AGAINST that. California used to be a great place. I vaguely remember as a kid when the Feds said "No more lead shot for ducks." CA said "Uhm. Yeah, no." and me and dad used lead shot for a few more years before the state was finally coerced.

NV is at the tipping point, but it's not too late - yet. I plan to do everything I can (and which I was too young to do in CA) to protect my new home.

IT. Going to work for a state entity. Benefits are decent, pay is good, people seem dedicated and interested in what they do, and I'm tired of dealing with the Silicon Valley Rat Race.

So I'll admit ignorance, because living in the Bay Area it's not an issue -- what do folks in Reno do about stuff like block/engine heaters? Does it get cold enough to need them? Seems there are aftermarket ones I can install, but it also seems like an oil pan heater might be useful, too. Cars will generally be garaged (unheated, but I believe insulated - if not, I will insulate it). House is off the valley floor, I think a shade under 5k feet.

Fellow IT person! Doesn’t get cold enough to need a block heater. I park my truck outside and never have any issues besides freezing my ass off for a few minutes in the morning.

I don’t even need a block heater and I’m in Tahoe. Not cold enough.

Awesome! Maybe I'll do the seat heater mod at some point.
