I never did the oil in mine, stealership services. I did forget the crush gaskets when changing my diff fluid twice. Major pain in the ass.

I ran Fumoto valves on my Subies and would have gotten one for the turd if I started doing my own oil changes.

IMO yes. Super easy to install and with the right hose barb it was a clean and quick change.

I think even with the valve I would have to remove the skid plate to get to the filter. I wish they would have put the filter up inside the engine bay. Would have been much easier.

Too many to list, and I've probably forgotten a bunch.
My wife's old car (now my DD) - RAV4, has that same cartridge setup. When she bought it, the first 'accessory' I got was the SST to remove the cartridge. Never seems to fail that the fins break off. So I replaced it, and said "Screw it, let the dealer do it." They busted off a couple of fins, too.

I apply a thin smear of fresh oil to the gaskets and torque to the FSM indicated torque. Doesn't matter. The tool and the phenolic plastic crap are a terrible design. One of the things I appreciate about my 2nd gen, despite liking the lines on the 3rd gens.

If Toyota keeps the 4 liter in the 2020 4Runner, the RAV is getting traded in for one of those. It's a neat little car and all, but...meh.

The 4.0 in the 2010 and newer 4Runner has a cartridge filter, unfortunately.

My 16 Camry has one and so far trouble free. Hope we didn’t jinx ourselves.

Ill pay Toyota to do that shit. Not worth my time. My Civic however.....I dont mind changing the oil in that, even though it sits on the ground and takes longer to jack up and down than it does to change the oil.

Indeed. Although since my back isn’t exactly garage worthy lately, I’ve substituted a few extra “shits” each day to just TW on my phone in the bathroom with the fart fan on.
