I try not to explicitly call out my hate for 3rd gens in our local thread but yeah, I didn't think they could get much worse until I saw the PVC this morning :D

80 Series all day every day. Honestly the only thing the 60 series has going for it over an 80 is the classic styling. In terms of comfort, driveability, capability, ride quality etc etc, the 80 wins without question.

Asking for a friend. What would happen to a 3rd generation if you actually forded something deep enough to use a snorkel?

Well the truck would be long dead due to the ecu getting wet.
If you look close Toyota advertises it as a 'desert air intake' since the primary design of a snorkel is to breath air from higher up away from dusty roads where the dust is thinner

You'd come out the other side with a minivan motor and transmission :stirthepot:

Snorkels are good for dust and generally do little for keeping water out since they aren't really well sealed. Plus, you'll still short all your electrical components below the waterline.

What’s wrong with 3rd gens besides a lot of the people driving them?

Too many to list, and I've probably forgotten a bunch.
RHD import 81? Saw someone tooling around in one the other day. I was going to look deeper into one of those, but the wife would flip out trying to drive it, so I got the Northern Nevada Standard SUV(Import) - a '19 4Runner. All told, still like my '14 Tacoma more than the 4Runner.

I really wanted the HDJ81. I also really wanted to not end up divorced and living in the '81, down by the river. :D

I want to look expo as fuck. Maybe I could mount this on the shell. Carrying 3 spare tires would certainly give me more expo cred when I'm at Meadowood.

Ok, so summer is just about here. The next couple of weeks are supposed to suck, but that gives everyone time to make plans for a meet. So, when can everyone meet?

I have 2 spares on my truck right now....one under the bed and the other on the swingout. I haven't had the energy to drop the spare from under the truck after I got back from DV 6 or so weeks ago. #fuckcancer

Any recommendations on a car stereo shop in Reno? My JBL entune is on the fritz (screen only comes on when on AM/FM/CD...nothing for nav or USB and the Bluetooth stopped working). I assume the stereo is on the way out since disconnecting the battery and letting it sit to reset did nothing.

I'd also like to get a remote start installed with the new head unit. Trying to decide if I just order a stereo and install myself then take it to Custom Edge for the remote start or find a local shop to deal with it all.
