Didn't feel a thing from my couch in Spanish Springs last night. One of the guys from my shop that lives in Carson said he felt it though

Growing up near the San Andreas fault and I rarely noticed most earthquakes under M5.5 . Most earth quakes I've had to be told they happened.

It was felt nicely over in little Carson City! A little rumble but nothing that made anything topple or or anything like that.

Caving in and THINKING about picking up a rtt. Who has one and do they like it? Honestly I think I want to put it on a small 4x4 trailer like randy’s. Pros/cons? I usually do a lot of backpacking but when I stay in my truck, I usually dump everything out and sleep in the back under the canopy. It gets old after a while and my kids are getting old enough to tag along so I’m thinking more space is needed.

If you have some spare time flip through this thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-rtt-owners-thread-with-bs.312269/

I had a basic 2 person TuffStuff tent for a couple years and just upgraded to an Autohome hardshell. For the camping I do I like having a RTT. It’s nice to be able to pop it up anywhere level without worrying about rocks or mud or anything like that. Plus I can get to camp and crank it up in less than a minute and my pillow and sleeping bag is already setup inside.

I know a guy with one that isn't using it anymore and could give you a deal.

    20180830_173714.jpg
    Pros
Can be parked loaded in garage ready to go. Can be left at basecamp to go exploring.
Quick easy setup and packup elevated tent with a mattress floor and enclosed annex for dog(s).
    Cons
Backing a short trailer is harder than a longer one.
Loading/unloading truck and trailer became a game of Tetris/Jenga trying to get all the stuff I wanted to bring in or out.

It was good to meet you in person and enjoy probably the last nice weekend before it heats up.

Pretty much everything Randy @4Wheelin4Banger said.

EDIT: Backing up shorter trailers is a PITA. I did buy the 2WD LO Module here which really helps since Toyota geared reverse for 60mph:

    Nice!

Took the oldest daughter up to Como, from the Dayton side. That road is ugly, and being beat to crap for that long wasn't so much fun. On the upside, 4 low, 1st gear, and steer. And then we got to tool around on some of the mine dump piles a little bit, which she enjoyed. One spot we went down, thought for sure it was either use locker or ATRAC to get back up, or maybe even winch back up. No need - the little truck just climbed its way out with nary a complaint. :)

Weather up top was cool and windy, but all the flowers were blooming, the springs and creeks were full, and on the way down I bumped into 3 old folks (70's) in a bone-stock Ford Explorer (mid-90's-ish) about 1/2 mile from the old town site. The guys seemed OK, but the old lady was at the end of her rope. They had plenty of water and snacks, so I made a note of their plate and description, and carried on back towards home. Hope they made it out OK.

I was up near Rawe Peak (on quads) by Como 2 weeks back. Road down low on the Dayton side was a lot rougher than last year.

Oh, so it has gotten worse? Some other folks were telling me that's just how the road always is.

Doesn't matter either way. I didn't put a lift and skids and stuff on the truck to park it down at Meadowood Mall. Build it, wheel it, break it, fix it.

If you're not flexed out on a curb at meadwood you're doing it wrong.

Unless you're flexed out at summit sierra instead.

Its been like that for the last 10 or so years I have been going up there from the Dayton side. From what I recall they bladed it a few years ago when they were doing alot of wildfire prevention/ brush clearing. It didn't help much, and its back to what it was before. Those rocks will put your alignment / all your torque specs through the ringer.

First night of a 3 day trip (this last sunday)... haven't been stuck myself in a few years was a nice little reminder that looks can be deceiving when it comes to road passibility.... Someone had gotten stuck in this spot earlier this year, runoff filled hole with silt looked like no problem.

Not sure how well the pics will show it, but the water was coming into tailgate on rear driver side, front passenger tire was 2-3 feet in the air, made for crawling in and out of driver seat interesting. Also look at angle of passenger rear tire and it gives a good idea of how far in the hole the driver tire really was  Good times!

And a shot for a little 2nd gen humility

    DSC_0074.jpg

EDIT Also to note, put on another ~50 miles of dirt roads after this, and 300 miles of paved roads back home today and the old steed didn't bat an eye.

I think I got lucky in the alignment department. But I think the general bouncing around finally killed my core/radiator support bushings. Adding that to the list of stuff to fix!
