My apologies, not trying to make a big deal out of anything,
I lurk in this thread because my GF went to UNR so I spent a lot of time up in that area, and still have friends that we go up to visit.

Sup guys! Looking at potentially moving to Reno for work.
For the kids, hows the school system?
Whats the neighborhoods NOT to look for a place to rent?
Overall how you guys liking it?
Seems Reno is kinda big city, small town feel?

    This might hurt feelings but...

Google: “Tracy Davis WCSD” or “pedro martinez wcsd” or “wcsd digital days”

I think your better off focusing on particular schools, many of which are better than others.

Avoid neighborhoods that feed into HUG hs, Wooster HS, Sparks, Reno, Reid

Or choose neighborhoods that feed into N.Vs, Demonte, Galena, SS, Mcqueen

Reed, Reno, or Sparks wouldnt be the worst I guess but I’d still rather send my kids, if I had any, to the above. I would absolutely avoid wooster and hug. Either way WCSD is extremely dysfunctional trash. Id live in Fernley if feasible if just for your kids.

OTOH you can’t win and all these areas are annoying, overcrowded, and filled with pretentious shits - theres no escaping the biggest little shitty. Reno was cool 10 years ago, maybe even 5. Things have been spiraling out of control in NV in the last 5 though so welcome to our dumpster fire.

Another big influence in where Id suggest you look is what area you’ll be working in. Reno is becoming harder to get around in so living in a proper location relative to your work is a consideration.

But hey, I guess its all in your state of mind. I hear from a lot of new residents that moved East that this place is paradise compared to next door.

Ohhh yeah, I would definitely avoid living where I have to commute through the spaghetti bowl ever. Absolute cluster fuck. So is 395 N but so is Pyramid/Sparks/Vista. Vetetans pkwy has helped S Reno a LOT.

Only been living here for 8 months now but from what I can figure out schools suck because the city is growing too fast. More students same amount of teachers. Shit happens seen this happen in Sacramento 15 years ago.

JFC - Guy makes one mistake and you ban him. He apologized and our community corrected him. It was handled fine by our own Nevada people. Why don't you go mess up some other tread, we are doing fine here and don't need some outsider mucking it up and being a troll. Good grief!

I've given this advice before. If you work south of 80 - live south of 80 and visa-versa. Commutes around here are only bad if you are crossing 80 and it is getting a bit worse if you work at Tesla and have to go east on 80.

If your kid likes band - Damonte is the school. I don't know a lot about the other schools though.

Found a single maxtrax half buried in some dried up mud today. They used it to get out and either forgot it or by the time the made it up the hill said F it and left it. If its anyone's here let me know where it was and you can have it back hahaha. It is cracked down one side but not terrible.

Thanks for the input guys. I grew up in Miami, left in 98, went back in 09. So, traffic yea. I know what it can be.
For work, I'll be traveling all over the city and areas for a daily basis. So, I'll get a lay of the roads quickly.
I'll keep south of I80 then looking for a place to live, or go west towards Fernely/Fallon.

Of course this is all dependent on how the next few weeks go.
