Wow awesome! I am thinking about taking a trip to central and norther NV to go camping and would love to take the kids here. Care to PM me the location? All the fossils down south are mostly of sea shells and coral. My kids would love to see "dino bones" even if they were fish.

I prefer a dremel with a body chop saw at the bottom towards the door. I used a file to smooth out any rough spots and then put some trim on it. Here is the link to the start of me doing it. Can't believe that was almost 7 years ago. Time flies!

That looks pretty slick! I like how you did that.

Now, the only thing that I see after I do this is that the only thing holding the flares on will the clips.

I have zip ties at each end for anchor points. Has held up really well and they still pop of when you hit a tree or a rock :anonymous:

Well I wouldn't say going out in the desert is the mark of a bad citizen but you're not missing out in any case.

Went to the Costco in Carson City Tuesday, went early to beat the crowd. It was still a zoo. On the bright side gas was only $1.79

I apologize maybe it was confusing the way I wrote it, I was asking if anyone had been out in the desert as in the "boonies" .... Was just referencing the insane amount of people I have seen the last couple days I went to wander around.

The Hills have been crawling with people.

Kind of hard to pick a spot in these times. Everywhere in CA is closed, and it seems many of them are coming here to recreate which I can't blame them for. Was planning on a couple nights at Squaw Creek out of Gerlach as its private property and open. Had a friend head out before and he said it was literally packed to the point of being hard to find a spot. If you know Squaw Creek you know how ridiculous that is. I didn't even bother heading out there, and Im sure all the hot springs are the same.

Great. I was thinking about just filling up the tank, taking some supplies and spending a day just roaming east outside washoe or towards Lockwood. Some buddies and I wanted to go camping at some remote spots we know way outside truckee. Do you know if they have roads closed too or just designated spots?

Same up here at the lake. I took this picture last week driving home form work in incline village down east shore. Every parking spot and turn out was packed with cars.

Not sure if you have been out by Lockwood - VC highlands but those roads are rocky as shit (not fun crawly rocks, like rip the steering wheel out of your hands and slash your sidewalls rocks) and its kind of a bummer in a truck.

If your looking for somewhere close and have never been up off Winnemucca Ranch Road thats a fun area to explore

I honestly haven't been following the situation in CA closely enough to advise you on it. Just know all campsites were closed, maybe dispersed is still open?

I have, and there are a few areas that aren't awful until you get higher up. Definitely had a couple major "oh shit" moments that almost ended poorly, but I really like exploring out there.

    I'll check it out, thanks

yeah, we never go to camp sites. Usually random roads that take you miles up to the middle of nowhwere.

We've been out in either the cruiser or the sxs the last 4 weekends. There has been at least twice as many people as we generally see. We've found a few spots to be alone, just had to go a little father than usual.

Just a couple shorter half day runs with the kids. I put the tent on a couple weeks ago with the intention of getting out for a quick overnighter with the family before I head to San Diego but haven't made it out yet.

We were out on stampede last weekend and it was the busiest I've seen it on a non-holiday weekend in a long time.

Also seems like the local offroad recovery pages have seen a big increase in stuck vehicle requests.
