I got a call for a rescue mission up there yesterday. Glad I passed and kept painting my basement.

I was thinking of going camping Friday night. Sounds like I might need to hit up some of my super secret spots to get away from the crowds.

Anyone know what snow levels are like right now off HWY89 and the Jackson Meadows area?

Too many to list, and I've probably forgotten a bunch.
There was a call over in Dayton, too. I was 2 hrs from town and they called it off 3 minutes after I got home. I take it you're WCSAR? If so, I'd like to talk!

Never been up that way. I see lots of lakes on the "duh" map I'm looking at. Any fishable water at the outflow of Jackson?

Im heading out this weekend too for a couple nights and was considering that area but decided to go a little bit more remote as I don't want to deal with crowds so heading out towards Central NV. If you go up there Id be interested to hear how many people there were.

I’ve heard from some friends that the crowds in Nevada aren’t much better. Although I’m sure you can find something away from people.

100% agreed, any destination spot in NV that is open is pretty sure to be busy as shit. I really am curious if that area will be busy or not, I typically head up beyond Weber lake area, and it is super hit or miss when it comes to crowds, I figure with the current situation I just didn't want to gamble so Im just going out to the middle of nowhere.

Typically there are a few areas most people don't go. Busy places would most definitely be weber, the reservoir and bowman. Last year we would choose random trails to go down and would rarely find anyone, especially if you go middle of the week, but with current circumstances, I imagine it may be different.

No. This was a friend rescue mission :) basically "we're f'd, can you help"

I've wanted to look into what it would take to join WCSAR though. I see there is an application process but haven't gone much further than that.

Their application process doesn't seem much different than most other units, but they do have a pretty stringent probie period.

I would not ever bother with WCSAR. Underfunded, political as fuck, at least when i was one.

Pretty much every SAR program out there. It attracts a lot of the wannabe cops/military out there who go full retard when you give them a patch on their shirt that says Sheriff on it.

I did SAR for a few years in Placer County and overall they had a good program and support from the sheriff’s office. The training was crazy. You had to complete 150ish hours of classes before they would let you even go on a search which took 1 year minimum. But it was very political and cliquey. If you weren’t in the inner circle you barley got any info just a “go search this area for this” and acted like it was top secret info. Plus after all the training we barely got called.

I looked into WCSAR but just don’t have the time to commit. At least it looks like they get called and used a lot.

A guy I work with used to be SAR for quite a while. I can ask him when I see him next if you want. From what he's told me, you see some shit

    Edit:
And this from what he said. Lot of bs

If you really want to volunteer , I would recommend firefighting, I did that too, waste of time, understaffed, underappreciated . If you want to so something else i would suggest join the guard.
