Might be down too if we don’t go camping. Got into a gnarly bike accident so limited in activities I can do. Will be doing a lot more hot springing again now. There is one we want to return to before winter that would be nice to have someone else come with. Road was kinda sketchy last time. GF was not happy haha..

I have been researching like crazy. My needs are reliable, trail riding, rock scrambling. Everything i have found points to the Kawasaki KRX.

Now where to find an extra $20k.....

Don't suppose you have a couple dozen couch cushions? That's pretty pricey. One day i'll try to justify one to myself

KRX definitely seems like it would fit those wants/needs.
I really like that machine, checked one out when they came out last year. Seems like a very tough SxS, good suspension design, reliable clutch design. Only thing is I would say it's a sport machine, but not 'high performance' sport machine like some of the other Turbo SxS's. Still all the NA 1000's are decently powerful. I had a polaris RZR 1000 Rock and Trails edition a few years ago but would have picked the KRX had it been available.
Now rocking a heavily modified Can Am X3 XRS that has proven pretty solid for us over the last year and a half. Granted now we just jumped up $10k in price and about double the HP over the 1000's. Not everyone needs that much power(and some downright shouldnt have it! lol).

Too many to list, and I've probably forgotten a bunch.
Good points, I should have said that all originally.

I want to go on trails generally too narrow for a Tacoma, or just rockier than what I feel like pounding the Tacoma through. Not looking for high speed across the flats, basically something to get me up trail quicker than walking.

I'd use it for daytrips at most, not camping, probably use it to get to some hunting spots, and then go on foot from there. No property chores to speak of, given where I live.

A 2-seater would probably do. I'd take my older daughter in it to go noodle around and explore a bit, let her drive some and generally screw around and have fun. Not planning to crawl over boulders or slog through major mud bogs.

In terms of budget - lol - whatever the wife is OK with. I think she wants to keep it under 20k, but from looking, I'm not sure that's reasonable while still getting a quality machine. I'd mostly be focused on mods for air cleaning, better tires, and maybe a winch. I don't *plan* on getting stuck, but....shit happens...to me. :)

Sounds like something along the lines of the following, IMO:
    Polaris General 1000,
    Polaris RZR Trail S 900 or 1000, or XP1000
    Kawi KRX 1000,
Can Am Maverick Sport DPS/ X-XC/ or X-RC
Theres a new Yamaha Wolverine R-Max that would likely suit you well- just released, not a ton of info yet.
A Honda Talon X may work well also

Typically the Honda/Kawasaki/Yamaha would likely be the most reliable, followed by Can Am's and then lastly the Polaris'. I put 1500 miles on my RZR without much issue aside from killing tires, but did end up blowing the front diff on the Rubicon in it though admittedly I was getting a bit rowdy going up Old Sluice I will say, so someone driving more 'reasonable' likely would not have done the same(2 other RZR's on the same trip were fine). LOL

Can-Am Commander would be my suggestion. I think they’re very reliable and well made and a solid compromise between go fast and utility. Followed by Can Am Defender. Possibly Honda Pioneer or Kawi Teryx (not KRX). Then maybe a General but I don’t really care for Polaris.

I’d absolutely steer clear of the texron/arctic cat stuff - for a lot of reasons.

I don’t think a maverick or rzr is a good fit.

I'm with Max on this one. I think they commander is a good fit for what you're after. One thing I like about the commander is you can buy the DPS model which is very reasonably priced, and has what you need, then you can add the accessories you want. Or you can buy the XT which is dolled up, or the limited which is loaded up more. Both have things I don't care to have which is why we bought the base and added my own stuff. Like I said if you want to cruise mine around let me know.

My buddy Paul is picking up a bumper for his ZR1 from you tomorrow, Eric. Thanks for the quick work! We're gonna have a blast installing that beast.

Awesome! Sounds like you just nailed down some weekend plans
Note that the Z71 Colorado trimming is a little harder than the ZR2's so just be sure to take your time and test fit to get it perfect.

Though that would be a preferred type of weekend, I've got a house to help move. We will definitely measure thrice when we get at it though! Be sure to check out his truck! We've done some good work to get it to how it looks.
