Too many to list, and I've probably forgotten a bunch.
And here I was hoping someone caught an epic Man v Bobcat fight on film, and you went totally Feral Caveman, a la 10,000 B.C., while doing 70 down the interstate drinking a beer and double-clutching to 3rd for the upcoming grade.

    Damn.

Hive-mind -- I need some diagnostic advice from the locals.

2014 DCSB 4.0/6MT, 51k on the clock, owned since new.

In the last 5 or 6 weeks, once the truck is warmed up, there's a weird whine from the engine compartment (generally, hard to pinpoint). Here's what I've done so far:

Pulled the serpentine belt and spun all the idlers and tensioner - nice and quiet.
Checked belt - it's good compared with a brand new Toyota belt.
Put a long screwdriver to the PS pump, AC compressor, and Alternator - all are quiet
Put same long screwdriver to front and rear of block and bell housing - all quiet there.

    What I know:

If I drive 8 or 10 miles, the noise shows up. It's not there when cold in the AM. Noise does seem to vary a bit with engine speed, but by 1100 RPM, I can't hear it any more (or it goes away).

    What baffles me:

Once I hear the noise, if I put the truck in gear with the brakes applied, and gently ease out the clutch until there is just a tiny bit of load on the engine, the noise goes away for a while (seconds or minutes, it varies). What I've read says this isn't the T/O bearing 'chirp'. The noise is there when the truck is at a full stop, so it's not a CB/ujoint/diff/wheel bearing or anything like that. Where else do I look/what other parts do I investigate? Curious if anyone else ever ran into this and where I should apply wrenches.

And no, there's no Unicorn Supercharger under the hood crapping 50 HP rainbow farts into the manifold. :D

That's a really good point - I just realized I didn't listen to the water pump. I'll give that a try this afternoon when it acts up again!

Gave it a listen again last night - noise is definitely not coming from the alt, according to the screwdriver-to-ear trick.

Still going to check the WP as suggested, and try some different spots on the bell housing.

Afternoon classes got cancelled and now Ive got an itch to get out on some dirt. Any trails around here someone feels like recommending that would be moderately difficult in a stock truck with AT’s? Don’t want to be bashing skid plate every 2 seconds but also want something above a dirt road. Moon rocks is cool, need to get out there again with a buddy one day and actually have someone spot me to fully see what I can accomplish stock.

Maybe Jumbo Grade down in Washoe valley. Can split off at the top south and end up down by Carson, or take it over the hill down into Virginia City and then just drive back down Geiger grade to Reno.

Any recommendations for a breakfast or lunch place in Fallon? Heard about a BBQ place there.

Breakfast would be at the Fallon Livestock next to the New Millennium Steel Fab. Lunch would be the Courtyard or the Slanted Porch.

Edit: Courtyard opens at 0730 and you can get breakfast there as well. It's right on the corner of 50 and 95.

Co-worker always talked up a Tiki Masala pizza at some gas station or some place. Haven't found an excuse to make the drive to try it out.

Any good mechanic recommendations? Preferably in Sparks and someone that’s good with Tacomas? Probably going to need to have my timing chain cover gasket fixed soon and it’s too big of a job for me to want to do.

I liked Independent Specialists for my 08 before I sold it. Will take my 20 there too once the warranty is up. Buddy with a couple Landcruisers got me hooked on them. They stood by their work on a regear that didn’t last and redid the work for nothing. Steve Lewis always helped me.
