Too many to list, and I've probably forgotten a bunch.
I'm only a bit above 5000 feet, and I knew the crap was coming. Filled up the cars and generator, finished up the grocery shopping, and made sure I had lots of salt and sand stashed away in case I needed to leave the house (while planning to stay the heck home) days ahead of time.

It's like people cannot comprehend a simple weather forecast, or they assume "THE VAST AWD POWER OF SUBARU CONQUERS ALL WEATHER CONDITIONS!"

Ah yes, the ballad of the unprepared. When I heard people were getting redirected through IIRC Henness pass, I just pictured the absolute shitshow of what they'd be getting into. People need to A) actually check forecasts and B) maybe do some googling on whatever random road your gps is telling you to go on.

unfortunately you can't fix dumb. i saw somewhere that WCSO put illuminated signs on dog valley/henness pass roads to NOT use them to bypass 80 despite what your GPS Says, yet people still do.

The problem is people treat Tahoe and The Sierras like Disneyland or a cruse ship. They Assume that all will be taken care of for them and have zero accountability. Logic and reason go out the window the second they pull out of there driveway.

I know it’s super early but anyone know how I’d go about trying to get a summer job at northstar being a liftie or trail maintenance?

I’m keeping an eye on the job sites but it’s all winter seasonal stuff for now. And the year round jobs doesn’t specify what it would become over summer.

startin to look for stuff for spring/summer. I want to stay out here for summer. In Tahoe would be cool but housing could be interesting over there. My lease in reno starts in august for apartment. I can sublease in reno for summer.

but ideally I’d be a liftie at northstar. Use discount housing and live in village. Work full time or as much as they’ll let me, and just ride my bike when I’m not working.

Also: I try not to be annoying about using roads in bad conditions, but I do love a good powder day. If anyone says essential only I’ll listen, and if it says chains or 4wd obviously I’ll just throw it in 4 high and cruise along.

Close family owns a rental/vacation home business in Tahoe city, getting housing is really fucked in Tahoe right now unless you're ready to shell out a huge amount per month for rent. Only way to afford it is to have multiple roommates but 99% of properties will not allow this. Not sure is it is still a thing but J1 Visa used to pack people in a rental, the rental companies have caught on long ago and turn them away in droves. Maybe the resorts have cheaper housing I may be out of the loop now.

They'll list the summer jobs in the late spring. Not sure about employee housing during the summer there but their apartments are not in the village (they are on the Northstar property though).

Thanks for the info guys. First year out here but I definitely want to stay over summer so was just checking and figured I'm early.

Doesn’t help that many people moved into their vacation homes full time. Truckee has been swamped too over the last 2 years especially.

There are other resorts around Tahoe that have summer operations too. When I was working up there in the winters a lot of my coworkers had summer jobs at golf courses, boat rentals, or construction/painting.

    Any interest in wildland firefighting?

USFS has stations around the Tahoe basin and NDF & BLM on the Eastern slope (Washoe, Carson, Douglas).

Yep thats second choice, I do love biking though so If I could get a job somewhat related to it for summer that'd be pretty awesome.
I did actually already apply for the Winnemucca and Lovelock stations. The application I filled out those were the closest to reno. If you know of where to apply for some that are California side and not crazy far away any information you can provide would be awesome. That's my #1 summer job but I don't have full confidence I'd get selected so I'm making sure I've got other things ready to go as alternatives.

Cal-Fire would also be present in the area in South Lake & Truckee. Not familiar with their stuff recently but they used to interview for seasonals in January IIRC.

The USFS & BLM stations in the greater Tahoe area are desirable assignments and going to have more returning guys vs Eastern NV. Some local departments also run their own fuel reduction crews (Brush clearing).

eta: having any certs also helps with getting hired depending on the department. Even a CPR card or taking the basic wildland cert classes like S-130/190 at TMCC is a help.

looks like all the stuff close to tahoe for usfs and the cal fire positions all had application windows in early november and have since closed lol. And I though I was early. I'll keep looking but seems like the tahoe stuff had super early app dates.

They prorated them (285)’s but still have the oem spare if anyone is interested.
    Happy Friday!
