@InternationalHarvester, do you do tunes for 2nd gens? I'm going to have a modified TRD tune flashed on my truck when I install the supercharger but have to purchase a 2nd ecu to have flashed or ship mine out to UT and wait for it to come back. It'd be much more convenient to have it done locally.

A 4" angle grinder is like $25 at HF. I picked one up to cut the bedsides when I installed the HC rear bumper and have ended up using it on several other projects. If you're just trying to save weight and like to DIY projects when possible, it's definitely worth the money considering the difference in cost between what you'd sell your bumper for and what a replacement would cost.

I wish. I’ve always wanted to have a Marty McFly replica, seeing that it was the best movie(s) of all time. IMO

Not sure if I have posted this in here... I have an '86 the same color as above, I drive it more than my tacoma around town. I thought it was crazy how much people are willing to pay for clean early Toyota 4x4s but after owning a couple i get it.

Too many to list, and I've probably forgotten a bunch.
    Well shit.

Had to go to the Bay Area for training yesterday. Get there and I smell gear oil. Take a look under the truck and the D/S CV axle seal is leaking. That's what I get for playing in the mud last weekend. :)

So looking at threads here, it looks like:

    Pull tire
    Pull dust cap
    Reverse-ugga-dugga the 35mm axle nut
    Reverse ugga-dugga the LCA bolts
Swing the mess out of the way and pry-bar the CV out of the diff housing
Remove seal with a seal puller
    Reverse the order of operations

Seems folks have a challenge with R&R of the axle itself. So two questions:

    1. Can I safely put a pry bar between the diff housing and the axle and pry it out or is there a more "civilized" way to do this w/out mangling the dust shield thingy?
    2. When re-installing the axle, it seems there are myths about circlip opening orientation, some being able to just push the thing home, spline alignment vs circlip alignment, etc.

What's the truth on 1 and 2? I ordered the axle nut impact socket, 2 seals (because I will invariably bone the first one to shit as a 'learning experience'), a spare dust shield, and a new seal puller (mine went to the land of missing socks when I moved). I've got a good corded impact, good torque wrench up to 250 lb-ft, plenty of blue loctite for the LCA bolts, spare cotter pins (oddly, just ordered a master set a week ago in anticipation of lifting the 4Runner). Hammers, pry bar, sockets, plenty of 'Shop Beer', and an undying need to test out my new deadblow hammer.

    What am I missing, hive-mind?

    1) you could use a slide hammer type concept but I've had good luck with a pry bar
    2) I've just slid mine in without paying attention to any orientation. Not saying it's right though :p

@obscurotron ECGS bushing while you're in there? I had an MF of a time trying to slide hammer the CV out. Dont remember if it finally popped or if I went the pry bar route.

Sounds like pry bar and maybe sacrifice the original dust shield thing. Check. Ordered a couple of those. Probably not going to do the ECGS bushing right now. I have other plans for this truck that involve the IFS ultimately going away. :D

Pry bar FTW on popping the CV loose. And when sliding it back in, if it doesn't want to seat with a few shoves, rotate it a bit and try again. Repeat until it goes. sometimes the clip on the axle stub is off to one side and rotating the shaft will be enough to center and it pop right in vs fighting it.
