Thanks for the quick feedback! I'm on stock suspension and hoping to keep weight down since I'm already averaging 12mpg in the mountains, despite driving with a light foot. In 255/80/17 it looks like the Duratracs are 54lbs, which is the same as the Yoko Geolandar M/T G003s, and the Toyo OC R/T Trails are 52lbs. That's better selection than I was expecting in that size and weight range.

I have a set of Cooper stx max 255 85 16s on my 1st gen. They have done well in the snow and mud. No complaints. On my 2nd gen daily driver I run KO2s 285 75 16s. They are a good standard for winter and summer.

I'm running the Toyo R/T Trails on my GX (lifted on 285/75/17's, roughly 34"). They've been good so far, nice and quiet on the road and traction has been good on/off road. Not the biggest fan of the E rated variety though. If I had to do it again, I'd probably look at the Falken Wildpeak R/T in C rating.

On a side note, did some things over the last few days. Did some spring cleaning on the rig and gave it a wash inside and out. Also installed some BD fogs from @memario1214 and got a tune from @InternationalHarvester. Haven't had a chance to put too many miles on the tune yet, but Mike made it pretty damn easy for me (even though I was a little late, sorry Mike). He was able to give me a couple options and found one that seems to work well for now. Definitely gave the GX some extra power to help counteract the lift, tires, armor etc. Will be traveling up to Oregon this week and will put nearly 2000 miles on it. Will report back with results, but would highly advise anyone that is curious to reach out to @InternationalHarvester if you are looking for an easy way to squeeze some extra ponies out of your rig.

This is what I run in the skinnys on 17's. They have worn like iron and are pretty good in the snow and rain, have a good warranty and are 3 peak mountain snowflake rated, though that is pretty meaningless in the long run.

Does anyone, maybe especially @InternationalHarvester, know if an altitude specific tune (if that's a thing) can help with mpg? Basically all of my driving is over 6500' and I'd love to improve on the 12 mpg I'm getting despite being on stock tire size, no lift, no armor, and driving with a very light foot.

Not much can be done while the engine is naturally aspirated because it’s relying on atmospheric pressure …the higher you go, the less pressure you have.

12 MPG seems really low for a stock truck even at that altitude. I would easily get 20 in my stock ‘17 at 4500’.

Having too light of a foot can actually hurt fuel economy. If you take a half mile (or whatever) to get to cruising speed, your truck is accelerating that whole time. Try getting up to cruising speed quicker. This way your truck spends more time cruising. Also, coast as long as you can to a stop. Try treating your brake pedal like it’s a bad thing

With that said, in the 5+ years I’ve been tuning, I’ve not had a single customer say their fuel economy worsened. However, I’ve had plenty report improvement as long as all things are equal. I can’t guarantee it, but if your truck got tuned, there’s a really good chance that you’d see improvement. Even if your fuel economy stayed the same, you’d still get to enjoy all the other benefits.

Based on some logic and experience, I bet you’d get better fuel economy (and obviously power) from forced induction. I know it’s pricey, but so it 12 MPG.

Message received. This is why my throttle is either 100% or 0%. My MPG's are around 10, but that's with a V8, 34" tires, full armor, RTT and a lead foot.

I'm not sure how @DaveInTahoe is getting 12 MPG's on a stock setup.

    Hey Dudes!
I hope your fall/winter/spring is going well. Any suggestions for where to get quotes for a color matched topper for Cement 3rd Gen shortbed? Willing to drive a little bit for best deals.

Anyone local interested in a used 2012-2015 Tacoma bumper? Figured I’d offer it up here first as I don’t want to ship it. Definitely needs recoating. There is rust and a couple small spots with weld porosity…this one was the very first Tacoma front bumper I built. Shoot me an offer.

Yea, I get 22-24mpg driving on the highway on a functionally stock set up.

Maybe someone put on a few too many pounds? :cookiemonster:

Impressive. I haven't reset the odometer and over the past 6k miles I'm averaging 14.4 with all the garbage I've thrown on the truck, going up the mountain every other day during the winter, and mostly driving like I'm forcing the poor taco to moonlight as a sports car. If only it had the manual.
