Anyone know where I can rent a Tacoma in the Los Angeles area? I want to drive one for a couple days before purchasing to make sure I really like it.

Any dealer that is serious about making a sale should let you take one for at least overnight. They might want you to leave a deposit but that would be the best way. I don't know of anyone who rents Tacoma's.

Yeah do that, just tell them that if you can't take it home to see how it works then its a deal breaker, they should cave. Other than that ask them if they have a used one you can try or a program vehicle. Those are ones that Toyota sends out just for that purpose. They might be more willing to let you take a used one home because they don't want to rack up miles on a vehicle they have to sell as "new". However if you are serious they will let you take it.

Yeah there are no dealers off of the Toyota Rental website that actually carry Tacomas. I already complained to Toyota Corporate and they basically don't care. I think I'll discuss it with actual Toyota employees as I work in one of their buildings.

Already contacted Toyota Central. They only have basic Tacomas, not the pre-runner style or 4wd model

Oh I see. Then you should tell the dealer you need to drive it for a day or two.

I'm sure there's a reason. For example, I doubt they would want you "borrowing" it to move furniture or go on that weekend 4 wheeling trip to the mud pits.

Just do what they said, tell them you're interested in possibly buying one but you want to test it out. If they think they have any chance at all of making a sale, you'll drive it home tonight.

I think you'll like it. The trick is figuring out what model and stuff to get.

Never drove mine till I owned it. I've got the TW community to thank for that. I did a lot of reading on TW before buying mine.

I've had better success dealing with them when I don't act too interested imo.:D I like to walk away a couple times before I close a deal.

Anything your concerned about that you may not like?

    I rented one in July!!
I also wanted to rent a Tacoma before I bought. San Bernardino Toyota was only one of two dealers i found in the LA area that rented tacomas. I can't remember the other dealer, but i found both from the website mentioned previously. I rented from San Bern cuz they gave 200mi/day compared to 150mi/day. And since i was going fishing 400mi to Mammoth... :D!

I rented a prerunner access cab, no 4x4 or couble cab avail for rent. When i returned it they said they were in the process of turning over their inventory and weren't sure what they would have for the coming year but assured me no 4x4's would be ordered. Anyways, call them...

And just in case your wondering... I had a blast in the Taco!

FYI, during the negotiations with Redlands Toyota on my subsequent purchase of an 08, one of the senior sales guys said i could take it home show the wife and bring it back the next day!!! I was shocked... i didn't bother taking it home cuz i knew i wanted it and knew how it handled.

One last advice, make sure you can afford to buy one before you rent one... cuz once you go Taco you never go back... o

My main concern is with the leg room for the driver. I drove a Tacoma, Tundra and the Nissan Titan today and the Tacoma has the least amount of leg room, but not bad. How would you say the leg room is when you drive log distances with the cruise control on?

longest trip for me so far is 25 mile trip to work. I went from a 92 Honda Accord to my Taco though. I'd say a long trip would be no problem for me. I'm 6' tall. I feel like I can stretch out compared to the car.
