The sales data is pretty interesting. I offer this not as an argument but I thought it was useful background to the conversation about the buying public.

2018: Tacoma (245,659 units sold) / Colorado (134,842 units sold).
2019: Tacoma (248,801 units sold) / Colorado (122,304 units sold).

"On a segment share basis, Tacoma sales accounted for 38 percent of the segment, the Ranger had 21 percent, Colorado had 16 percent, and the Frontier had 11. The Jeep Gladiator and GMC Canyon had 10 and 4 percent, respectively."

Exactly this. My 2013 trd OR has awesome brakes. Super sensitive. Even running 315's and pulling my scout trailer loaded down with camping gear. The 315's did make the braking more slightly more "forgivable" but it's still very responsive. Probably just right, and not so touchy.

I agree that the brakes on my '19 4runner are better than on my '05 tacoma, but I would not say that the brakes on the tacoma are bad or piss me off.

My dad has a '18 Colorado 4x4 that replaced his previous Colorado that was just a couple years older due to a couple issues he was having. I parked my '05 Tacoma 4x4 TRDOR with 215k miles next to his Colorado, and even though my truck is starting to show a bit age cosmetically, I would not trade for my dad's Colorado.

Ha, that went downhill quickly. I know the OP was not planning to buy a Colorado, but let this be a lesson to anybody who is considering buying a Colorado. Rent one first!

We have a few Colorados as fleet vehicles at work in various configurations. I wouldn't buy one.
They have a cheap feel to them with acres of hard plastic in the interiors. I'm not a fan of the low seating position even though I'm a tall guy.

Looking underneath and under the hood it all looks like it was built with cost/ profit margin as the primary considerations and very little thought given to quality. Like every component was built by the lowest bidder. I suppose these are the modern-day S-10's.

I'd be surprised if they hold their value anything like a Tacoma. I'll choose build quality over price point any day, hence the Tacoma in my driveway.
