So it begins… it’s been 24 years since I’ve built a new sound system. This JBL system sucks! The owner before me had some type of system, he left me with shit speakers and crappy splices!

"Crappy splices" - you aren't kidding, good luck.

Some people just shouldn't be allowed to use tools. :smack:

fyi, many companies like metrausa make replacement factory wiring harnesses. personally, i would cut everything just beyond the splices, and re-splice a new harness in the proper way to get rid of the double and triple splice extensions.

Shit like that should be permanently branded to the prior owner's LinkedIn profile, like a modern day scarlet letter.

Enter your vehicle info in the side bar here, and it will show you all available options. In this case, you'll be looking at the 'vehicle side harness'.

Though despite the mess, if you are going to modify the stereo, I absolutely would still use adapter harnesses for the added gear. It makes reverting to stock a dead simple proceedure

Is that the only connector they butchered?

that has your dash tweeters and rear door speakers, and then constant power to the battery.

the pac aph-ty01 harness will help you clean everything up

Got the box put together with an area to mount the RF maestro, and front crossovers on one side and kicker 660.5 on the other. For sub I’m running a RF P3 2ohm 8”… I’m already considering remaking the box for 2-8” and Polk DB components for front and rear.

now I just wait my equipment to come in.

I got the rear speakers in today, unfortunately I need to wait for the adapter plate. I went ahead and pulled the old DS18 out and mounted the cross overs for the Polks. This spot works but you need to be very careful that you don’t screw into hidden parts inside the door.

Every time I saw DS18 brand speakers, I knew the wiring was going to be chopped and screwed

The custom bracket out of the old speaker was interesting. I’ve never seen someone use the old speaker as an adapter

Hopefully the previous owner didn’t install any off road lights.
    Good luck with your project.

Got the amp, sub, and maestro temporarily installed to test. I also installed the front cross over to see how the Db18 6x9s and tweeters sounded in front with the sub..

The DB18s are LOUD! But the sound quality is shit. The magnets on the were huge. Much larger than the Polk 6.5s I put up front.

The polks db 6.5s up front have amazing sound quality, I can’t wait to get the tweeters and rear speakers in!

Please ignore the mess of wires, I thought I would be disappointed with the single 8” sub. I was correct. Tomorrow I’m going to my buddies house to pick up some old subs he has to test out.
