Let me see if I've got this right. We go to the Alameda bomb range. We fill a bathtub with water from a 2,000 gallon water tanker truck. We put cardboard in the bathtub. We put the balistics gel in the toaster. The toaster is powered by a Honda 3500 watt inverter generator. We use a pneumatic arm powered by a Develbis 10hp compressor to fling the toaster into the bathtub. We record it with the high speed cameras from 5 different angles, while we watch from behind a 2" thick sheet of Lexan.
    Am I forgetting anything?

I understand that, but I go most places alone. I have used my 4x4 too many times to trust a prerunner when exploring. Just curious since I already have the 4x4.

I think you’re on to something here....you might have just uncovered some serious money making potential. Have you seen how cheap flood cars sell for? This is your market! Buy all the ones with the rubber gaskets on the electrical connectors (MAKE SURE THEY’RE THE FINNED TYPE!!) and detail them up to get rid of the water stains on the inside. They should be good as new after that!

Lets put this into perspective,if the truck was waterproof,it would be running right now.

It has been drying as much as the cold will let it. I'm going to give it a few more weeks, rip the carpet out and see what happens. It's not worth enough to sell it yet. I will look for a new to me truck and swap out everything I want to keep; rack, tent, wheels and tires, radio.

His 1st gen got completely submerged past the roof in flood water for hours and he got it up and running again, was a lot of work though

Dealer said they would fix it but expect to pay more than $10k. That was my cutoff point, so it's a different truck if I want to stay in a taco.

everyone is saying it can't be done, figured I'd tag someone that's actually done it...even though I remember telling you the same thing when yours got flooded lol.

Though 1st gens do have a lot less electronically controlled parts

What's the condition of your truck now? Does it start and run? If so, just carry on and fix any electrical issue as they come.

Look at all the trucks with snorkels on this forum and where the stock intake is - anyone who actually "uses" the snorkel would have submerged his truck to the same depth as yours, and yours was in there for only 15 minutes.

Snorkels aren’t for water, I thought.

Title of this thread should be changed to “Are cardboard and toasters in a bathtub ok?”, that way everyone will go off topic and talk about how to salvage a flooded truck.

So is this still a valid question? I brought my 2nd gen back from a watery death, I could help out.

how is any of this BS helping the OP? Waterproof/water resistant...whatever.
Hopefully the OP disconnected the battery and will let it sit and dry out for a few days - change the oil. Sunny, dry days are good for this. Removing the carpet and padding helps a lot.
After a few days, reconnect the battery, try a few electrically accessories, lights, radio, windows. If all works OK then try starting it.
None of this advice is from my experiences just the steps I would take if this happened to me.
There is a thread on this forum where a guy's truck got completely submerged and he was able to recover it. @Jamesboy2233

So dealer wants > $10 to fix and that's your cut off point. OK. If that's the case, take $10K and buy another used truck that hasn't drowned.

In the end...who knows? Let her dry out and do all of the lesser expensive things most would do and see if it will run. Only problem with this is it could die a week, a month, or who knows when down the road.

Best of luck to you. I hope you get it worked out.
