Thanks - that's exactly what I'm trying to accomplish as well. The soundstage with stock drivers is down at my knees and I really want to raise it, without getting into custom kicks, or pillar pods. I don't need some SQ comp car's perfect front stage, but I know I can do much better using the stock locations. That sounds like what you've accomplished, and I'm willing to follow your lead here. I'm going to be running fully active sometime down the road. Sooner rather than later. I figure I'd rather have the tweets installed and be able to back them way down (or off) if need be, than have to go back and rewire, and all that hoopla.

At first I'll be running the 3's and tweets on the same channel with a passive with a 4khz crossover point (24db rolloff), which at first glance seems pretty complimentary. I can also configure tweeter phase, and select -3/-6/-12 db cuts to the tweeter if needed.

    Sound about right?

might start it a bit higher if possible, again it will be all up to your ears. our goals are similar indeed.

8's come in tomorrow. should have some pics and fitting ideas coming soon. i don't want to have to modify the door panel but we shall see....

amplifier is next step. i think i like the PPI 900.4, it is theonly class D i can find that has a massively adjustable crossover and allows you to make a bandpass channel with said crossover!!

Here's a Taco door with a 9" Morel Elate in the 6x9 location - looks like they were able to utilize the stock opening with little modifying.

My initial install was Rockford Fosgate 6x9s, MTX 90x2 amp. 2 Polk 12"s, Jensen 300x2 amp. Kenwood single DIN.

Last summer I added Fosgate 1" tweets and crossover. Since wire was already pulled to the doors I just went off that versus the stock wiring clusterfuck.

I originally had the split truck boxes but since got one custom for a Tacoma and changed to MTX 12"s.

Amps..the MTX died so I went Megaloud 100x2. I realize the Jensen is my weak link..however, I got it about 16 yrs ago on a tight budget and still works so I can't see upgrading it much as I want to.

The initial post at least discussed using 6x9s and if anyone had done it.

I had 6.5 components in my last truck and they were okay but the 6x9s can handle a little more IMO.

I could be wrong, but I thought someone also asked if people had used the stock wiring in the doors or bypassed it?

Anxious to see how this goes..I agree with a previous post about having the full range at the bottom of the door.

On the 3" full range, how did you modify the stock bracket?

I almost guessed that you went that route. I had Mr. Marv make a set for my Fosgate tweets, just mainly due to lack of time at that point.

you are using these as subs? or midbasses? I have some scanspeak discovery 8"ers, waiting to be put in the doors, for midbass duty. subs will be behind the bench

they will handle everything from ~500Hz down. I may not be running subs as i don't want to sacrifice the space.

I've done a mod or two
OP you seem like the correct person to ask this question to. What is your method for determining crossover points? I am super electrically and aurally inclined so I can really appreciate what you have done here and I look forward to my opportunity to do so as well.

experience, i tune by ear mostly. the reason for the PPI amp is more adjustability in the crossover regions. i have a friend with a RTA that i can use if needed.

I have the ********* plastic mounts (apparently I was a lucky one who actually got something from them recently) - but I've got a decent fabrication background. When I make brackets for the RS75's, I'll make up a template for it so I can crank out a few more if anyone is interested.

Unfortunately my amplifier has been delayed, so I'm kinda twiddling my thumbs. I don't want to take the doors apart until I'm ready to button the rest of the install up.

sorry for lack of updates, Thanksgiving and home audio stuff keeping me away from the truck. here is at least pics of the 3" Daytons mounted. material was some plastic i had lying around from another project. glad it was as thin as it is, they wouldn't work with thicker material.

Looks good! - looks like about 1/8" thick material?
