If your Tacoma is out of warrenty you need to stay away from the Stealerships. I worked in them and they will take you for anything they think they can pass off on you. People think they will get better service by going to a dealership but they are wrong. They have quotas to meet and the CSRs job is to sell and sell. He makes money on what he can sell to you weither you need it or not. I saw so many brand new parts being thrown in the trash customers paid for. It happened at Ford, Chevrolet, Buick, Isuzu, AMC, Mazda, Mercury and Nissan dealerships I worked at. The only time you service your car at one of these places is when it is covered by warrenty. Find a trusted local mechanic. Ask around. There are some still out there.

Only if I knew the techs. Which is pretty hard to do these days.

But even in the 60s, most dealerships (not all) subbed out major machine work like valve jobs. Much less refurbing a bottom end.

OTOH my FIL was skilled @ R&P setups and refreshing the popular GM turbo 350 and 400 transmissions. Not sure either of those are done in house these days.

I've had plenty of issues with my Toyota trucks but never oil consumption. They were/are work/hunting/fishing trucks and got really dirty inside and out to include some body rust but I always changed the oil around 6000.
    Great video.

My truck has 76,000 miles on it. The dealer did showed me the metal shavings some of the metal shavings where big. They said it was filter that caused the damage they said because the filter was not letting the oil pass.
But now as of a week ago my truck stop running I head something while driving it and stop and turn it off. Now I can’t turn it on it’s like the engine froze. Also my truck is payed off I want to fix it. I don’t want to get involved with payment again for the next 5 years.

Something sounds funky here... they are claiming the filter wasn't allowing oil to pass? If the filter were plugged then the bypass valve kicks in. You would also have an oil pressure warning lamp in the dash. If the engine is seized, then start looking for a new one... going through the dealer might put you back into payments again!

Not bad price really. A replacement for my friends 5.7 Hemi was well over ten grand not including labor.

it will be 10Gs 6100 for engine. if that parts dept orders it they will charge a % on that. 150hour shop rate avg x25hours labor alldata time 3750 plus shop charges and tax... over 10k.
even independent shop is going to charge all that just at maybe lower hourly rate

Sounds about right! My friends daughter just told me that the labor alone was a little over 4 grand for the Hemi. It's in a Dodge Ram. The original engine had close to 180 thousand miles on it before the cam loads deformed and ended the engines life. He likes the truck enough to fix it and I don't blame him cuz it's in great shape other wise.
I think if a truck is on sound shape it's totally worth it.

Sure if you take it to a name brand shop. But I know a lot of shops here in Sacramento that can take the old engine out and put new one in for about $800. With all new fluids. Gotta shop around.

go to an industrial area where there are lots of shops and ask around.

I used to work in one of these shops. We would do clutch jobs for $300. Engine swaps for $500. This was in 2016 though
